I have a 1995 318ti. Brakes are squeeling and I need new brake pads. What is recommended? Thank you. | | | 12-28-2008, 04:10 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I have ATE pads, good all-around pads, not meant for performance driving, bavauto.com has a big selection of brake pads, I'd recommend some of the low-dust ones if you hate cleaning your rims | | | 12-29-2008, 11:27 PM | #3 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! You'd have to look into that. | | | 12-29-2008, 11:34 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Tough question since everyone have their favorites. I run Carbotech Bobcats, a bit expensive for the street. Ultimate Axxis are fine too. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-30-2008, 01:44 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Fl Posts: 1,353 | I will post a very interesting pic tomorrow. I have run many different pads as I can get many different pads. Since the 330 brake upgrade on the wagon I have been running akebonos on the front pbr (axxis ceramics on the rear)... they grip awesome and dust next to zero. The pic I will post tomorrow will show my very drity wagon, I have not washed it or the wheels in 2k miles and 1 autox. The rear wheels are black the front wheels look like they have just been washed. I will be going to Akebonos in the rear when I do the 330 rear brake upgrade. Basically... I'm sold on Akebono Ceramics for heavy street use and weekend autoxing... not sure about track days... yet. __________________ SUPPORT 318ti.org! CLICK THE LINK ABOVE! They were AWESOME but kinda dusty!!! I have ATE's on the Ti and they are terrible. Pads make lots and lots of noise at low speeds until they heat up and I don't think they stop too well compared to what ever was on the car when i purchased it. __________________ -Jeff | | | 12-30-2008, 07:14 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Fl Posts: 1,353 | OK... we all know the front brakes produce more dust than the rears, keep that in mind. -front -2k miles, 1 autox, no washing -Akebono Euro Ceramics -rear -2k miles, 1 autox, no washing -PBR (AXXIS) Ultimates (Ceramic) For me the choice is pretty clear! __________________ SUPPORT 318ti.org! Not much more cost or work. | | | 01-02-2009, 09:43 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | I'd just stick with OEM pads. I think they work pretty amazing, but then again, ive only had my car for about 3 weeks, and the left front caliper was hung up since the day I purchased it. As a matter of fact, when i went to my buddies shop to change the caliper/rotors/pads , my frt drivers side caliper was glowing bright orange in the darkness outside his garage, even though i know theres a huge rick of fire, it was a pretty awesome sight to see. I went inside and got the other 3 guys so they could see it, and we all stood there in awe. It reminded me of an F-1 car or something. I really wish I'd taken a pic. __________________ WTB: 17 inch Milli Miglia MM-II's with proper fitment for a ti | | | 03-13-2009, 03:34 AM | #11 | Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: USA Posts: 40 | Can I ask what kind of driver are you? Are you doing racing? or just normal daily driver? Of Normal daily driver sticking at OEM pads will do. _____________ egr fender flares | | | 03-14-2009, 11:04 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Sacramento Posts: 245 | I agree with BimmerBum, stay away from PBR/Axxis Ceramic Ultimates. I have been very dissatisfied so far with mine on alll 4 corners. Cold performance is so-so, they are extremely dusty(advertised to me as low dust), and moderately noisy around town, though they do seem to work very well when heated up. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
