I collect and re-furb vintage fans, and a common problem I find is that low speed capability has died. Cheers, John | So John, is low speed working now? I'll be doing the same for my Cali. Rich | It is working, I'm happy to say. As I understand it from another thread, the trouble shooting protocol is: check fuses, check relays, then check the fan by jumping the high speed- low speed electrical connection that plugs into the the thermoswitch on the the top side of the radiator, with the ignition on. If you get both speeds to turn on when you jump both connections, one at a time, to the middle (brown) ground wire, then the thermoswitch is bad. If one or both of the fan speeds don't come on, then the fan is bad. Make a small jumper cable out of speaker wire to test the fan. At least that is what I did. | | | 08-11-2014, 02:58 AM | #198 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Installed the door panels from Miss Kitty - OEM Black & Gray leather, to match my Vaders Next up is a gray shift boot and ebrake boot... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I have a few spare parts. Moved to a storage unit to clear the garage for my PWCs, as I need to overhaul their outdrives. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! No, all is good. The location where I stored my PWCs and trailer has gone away, so I decided to house them in my garage. Well, you saw my garage. So, I rented a storage locker and picked up a few shelves from Costco to make best use of the vertical space. Moved about half the parts this weekend. Mostly the E36 and E39 parts. Now, she does like that she can traverse the garage without walking into a part of some sort. Good for me too, as I now know I have more than enough spare window regulators, door cards, seats, wheels, MAFs, taillights, Cali tops ... Etc, Etc.. Real cool guy. He's so busy that the doesn't mind if you source all the repair parts yourself and just put them in the trunk, and drop the car off. I would have enjoyed doing the work myself, but it's very hot right now in Wichita Falls, Texas, plus I don't want to tie up half my garage for days. Rich, how hot does Sacramento get in the summer? The fresh buns and covers made my ripped up driver's side seat look a world better. Also scored a less ugly steering wheel to replace the worn-through leather one. $50 and some time well spent. | | | 08-30-2014, 06:26 AM | #210 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | John, not so hot lately. High 90's. low 100s. Sounds hot to some, but cooler than I remember. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org!
