you have a friend that can help isolate the area it's coming from? it would help a lot to know the general area. that's the only time you hear something, when getting in/out? does it do it every time? __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles

One of the shocks is probably dead, as i found out with mine a couple of months ago. Does your car twitch when hitting bumps on the road?
If it does......that's the cause.
Also check the Shock mounts and trailing arms bushings.

Push down on the rear of the car. Does it squeak? Now release the parking brake and try it again.
