Default Which ti should I purchase?

Im going to get one in a few months i just had a few questions. In order of importance...
1) mileage (under 60,000)
2) most modification options
3) gas mileage

I want to get the sport package of whatever I decide on, but basically I was wondering whether i should get a 1997 or a 1999. I like the lower mileage on the 1999 and the fact that its newer, but im afraid there will be less modification options on the 1999.

Lastly, is the 1.8 Liter the largest engine I can get this body type. If not, do you reccommend i get anything else?

thats all, but my heart is set on one, I love smaller cars, and I love bmws, (this will be my second one) i have a 2001 325i, so im sure i want it. thanks so much for your time and help....ciao.

There will be no difference in modification options between a 97 and 99. The only different year of the ti would be the 95, which is OBDI and easier to modify. Along those lines, the 97 and the 99 will also have the same gas milage, as they have the same engine. The 95 has the 1.8l M42, and in 96 they switched over to the 1.9l M44. In the US, the 1.9 is the largest engine you can get in the ti, but you can always swap to another engine, such as the 2.8l M52 from the 328 or the 3.2l S52 from the M3.

sport or active...i like my leather seats...and cruise control...so i can always upgrade the suspension and stuff of the sport...seats are harder to find one that match and CC isnt cheap either...those are jsut my thoughts.

How do you tell the difference between the different 318ti models?
- base
- active
- sport
- club sport
Does the VIN show what model it is?
