Default New York cheap eats?

I will be in Manhattan for a couple of days and I need some advice from anybody who knows how/where to eat cheap in the city.

I like fancy restaurants as much as anybody, but I need to watch the budget on this trip, so if anybody knows of good grocery stores or cheap cafes, lay it on me.

Chinatown and Little Italy for the quick budget eateries. That is near downtown. Which part are you staying around?

Gray's papaya, the recession special gets you two hot dogs and a smoothie!

Then, at least once, eat here, the food is excellent. I had the lobster diablo when I went.

You just need to eat or can splurge every once in a while?

Also, weekend or weekday?

Thanks everybody.

Yeah, we'll splurge once or twice, but I figure we'll be walking around touring alot and can get inexpensive food on the go.

Mainly over a weekend.

One of the things you have to do then is do Sunday brunch. Fixed price, includes a mimosa or bloody mary, usually around $15pp including tip.

Can't remember the name of this place but it's a yellow building at Ave A and 7th on the southwest corner.

There's pretty much a pizza joint within a block and a half of everywhere, so it's not a big deal. Also, most restaurants and cafes have their menu posted outside so you can check prices before you go in.

Oh god, stay away from street vendors...

As for a grocer, hit up the Grand Central Market (in Grand Central Terminal(http://grandcentralterminal.com/go/d...Cat=2138210767)) and on the Upper West Side, Zabar's (www.zabars.com)

World's largest Whole Foods @ Columbus Circle in the AOL Time Warner Building, grab lunch there too I suppose (There's a McDonald's down the block too) (Free Delivery from McDonald's too..)

+1 on the bloody marys (home made - none of that BM mix sh!t) - best ones around! Huevos Rancheros do not suck either...

Gray's Papaya FTW too - specially if you are high & it is 3AM!

But besides that, any pizza place place will do (on every corner almost) - nothing like a NY slice of pizza!

However, if you want to treat yourself with the best steak in the city (IMO) 'The Strip House' - expensive but worthed (forget Peter Luger's / Sparks / and all that jazz)
