I will be in Manhattan for a couple of days and I need some advice from anybody who knows how/where to eat cheap in the city. I like fancy restaurants as much as anybody, but I need to watch the budget on this trip, so if anybody knows of good grocery stores or cheap cafes, lay it on me. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 07-11-2008, 10:03 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Boston, MA Posts: 1,152 | Chinatown and Little Italy for the quick budget eateries. That is near downtown. Which part are you staying around? | | | 07-11-2008, 10:16 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | Thanks, I will be near Chinatown. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 07-11-2008, 11:46 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Orange County, NY Posts: 1,067 | Gray's papaya, the recession special gets you two hot dogs and a smoothie! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray's_Papaya Then, at least once, eat here, the food is excellent. Also, weekend or weekday? __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 07-12-2008, 02:48 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | Thanks everybody. Yeah, we'll splurge once or twice, but I figure we'll be walking around touring alot and can get inexpensive food on the go. Mainly over a weekend. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 07-12-2008, 03:57 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | One of the things you have to do then is do Sunday brunch. Fixed price, includes a mimosa or bloody mary, usually around $15pp including tip. Can't remember the name of this place but it's a yellow building at Ave A and 7th on the southwest corner. There's pretty much a pizza joint within a block and a half of everywhere, so it's not a big deal. Also, most restaurants and cafes have their menu posted outside so you can check prices before you go in. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 07-12-2008, 05:13 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Stamford, CT <-> Boston, MA Posts: 1,393 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti Grand Street Deli!! But besides that, any pizza place place will do (on every corner almost) - nothing like a NY slice of pizza! However, if you want to treat yourself with the best steak in the city (IMO) 'The Strip House' - expensive but worthed (forget Peter Luger's / Sparks / and all that jazz) Quote: Originally Posted by Ji Money | __________________ SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!
