Just take out the M44 and throw in the S50. The trany will fit. You have to use all the parts of your M3 , and add the destroyed. The engine compartment is exactly the same. You have to be carefull with the electronic section of the swap , if your engine is OBDI and the ti is a M44 it will be more difficult, and the immobiliser needs attention too.
The parts that will not fit the ti is the whloe rear axle.

Do you have the 286 hp euro s50b30 or the 240hp s50b30us? Either way you are going to have more difficulty going from obd-I car to a obd-II car. Do you want a cheap short block or an expensive? Recycling yards are a good place to start. BavEngine has a recycling yard that has all the US motors. They also sell reman engines.

EDIT: I thought it was illegal to swap an engine in older than the car, in california at least.

It could be done but it depends on emissions.
In my area a 1996 better be OBD-II?

The tranny will fit but I wouldn't recommend it.
Not sure how long the diff will last either.

That will make things much easier for bolting up. Did you ever have issues with the valve retainers on the engine? That was a known problem and would be a good idea to fix.

OBD-I to OBD-I is the easiest of all swaps. So yes it will 'bolt up' althought it is not quite that simple.

Default a little more help please?

i am going to be pulling my motor out soon. it looks like it took a good slam in the front. i am not sure what i can slavage. but as soon as i pull it i will be able to tell. Smoeone here brought up a good point to me about spending all this time and effort to swap a 135k mi motor. what should i buy new and what should i keep even if it aint broken? i dont want to install 135k mi part thatwill break on me soon? does any one know where i can buy a shortblock? if my block is ok what should i replace in it.
Also, when i shut the motor off after te accident it was running horrible. when it went vertical on the towtruck all the oil leaked out. should i scrap it and keep the intake manifold, starter. are the stock headers good enough to reuse or do aftermarket ones raise h.p.
pretty much does anyone know of a good shop to call to talk to about some issues and purschasing parts. can i get some trusted site names?
