Thanks I knew that one!!! The Hwy was salted and I didnt have any prob on it.
The problem was the parking lot of the Hospital where I work..They didnt plow it!!!
So the way out of the parking lot took me almost 30 min. (usually is no more than 4).

i think the only stock ti that could have a LSD is the 95 ti. once they started doing ASC+T it disappeared. if you got yours used, it's possible a previous owner swapped one in (although unlikely). there are a couple ways to tell: (1) metal tag on the diff has an "S" on it, eg: 3.45S - it should also have a white "S" painted on the diff, but likely on the top where you can't really see it when mounted on the car), (2) if you're losing tracking in the snow, drive will switch between the wheels (this will be quite noticeable - i just experienced it trying to get up my iced over driveway!) and (3) jack back end up and turn one rear wheel (what i always forget is what the indicator is if you have LSD vs open - i *think* it's if the other rear tire moves in the same direction).

if you have an open diff, your one drive wheel will just spin in the snow. if you have an LSD, it will mechanically "sense" the one wheel is slipping and change to the other wheel. as that one slips, it switches back. you can feel this mechanical action if you're slipping around in the snow.

Well I dont really feel ( maybe I need to put down the music, lol)
but the ASC light pops on!
Why the previous owner will change it? An open dif. is better?

ASC = open diff (unless someone changed it to LSD). LSD will give better traction since multiple wheels can be driven. i prefer LSD. but they can co-exist (although ASC can kind of fight the LSD).

imho, it helps quite a bit. if you're feeling adventurous, turn it off and see what happens i suggest doing that when no one else is around

No. Technology can only do so much. Then physics take over.

It's fun until there is a car or armco neck to you.
Or in my case in 2000, a tree.

If you can afford to drive a BMW, you can afford to buy snow tires. Tires are the single most important part of the car, they are the ONLY thing between you and the road, if they fail...it's game over.

Whenever you hear "driving lost control of their vehicle" on the news you can bet that having better tires would have saved them. Honestly, snow tires turn the 318ti into a snow mobile.

As stated before: All-season=no season. Run dedicated warm and cold weather tires for the best experience.

That is just ridiculous. RWD are just fine properly equipped. I remember I think it was Autoweek who had misconceptions about RWD and FWD in the snow.
