So today I finally changed out the set of dead lift supports on my avus blau hatch. It was literally the easiest and least stressful thing I've ever done on any vehicle let alone a BMW. I know it is one of the easiest things to do but I've heard of people fumbling with the snap clips but I didn't think I'd have any issue. Two minutes begin to done.
I also wanted to share a tip. The oem or oe struts are around 60 to 100 depending on how you source them. Today I went to the local auto zone and found a set that were of the correct length from mighty lift. Both together have about double the normal Newton rating of the standards but on my car I have a wing and the wiper so increased weight. The part number you want is c95769 from mighty lift. All told with tax it was 36 bucks and change. They fit perfectly and work wondeful. Attached are photos of the bags they came in and one on car. My local auto zone didn't have them in stock but got them from their DC by 530pm local time.
Side questions for anyone. What's the best way to deal with peeling tint? My rear hatch had an aftermarket at the legal limit job done by the previous owner I assume but looks terrible now so I need to redo it. Leave it to a pro since there's the window defroster wires to deal with too? Or is it not that big of a deal to remove with the right tools or chemicals? Thanks. Also easiest maintenance job you've done on your ti? I'm curious.
