I want to swap my 96 club sport, what is the best swap for me? I have worked with lots of old american muscle cars, which don't have all of the wires and computers, haha, and a few honda ricers, but this will be my first attempt on a bimmer. Lets also keep in mind that I'm currently a poor college kid, so I'm not looking to spend 10 grand to have this done either. I would like to do M3, but I have no clue where to start, I'm going to start researching this, but any help you guys who have already done this could give me would help out alot. Thanks! | | | 01-09-2007, 07:30 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | Poor College Kid + modding a BMW is a hard Road to travel. ODB II, I'd go with a M52B28(328,Z3 2.8), it's way cheaper than a S50B32, and modded right you can make some good power out of it, also if you can find a Z3 alloy block, you really won't gain much weight from the engine. Still you will have to swap brakes, and suspension and diff(either at the time of swap or when it gives out, and go with a 188mm cased LSD) Btw, 1996 Model year is Sport, not a Club Sport. | | | 01-09-2007, 04:57 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Lawton, Oklahoma Posts: 110 | Quote: Originally Posted by Panzer_M Poor College Kid + modding a BMW is a hard Road to travel. | haha, yeah, the good news is that I am capable of doing all of the work myself and have a fully supplied shop to do it in. Bad part is getting the money together to buy the engine this early in the semester, scholarship people dont like me | | | 01-09-2007, 05:10 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | As long as your not set on an M3 powerplant, you can do the swap yourself prettly cheaply. I'm very happy with my 2.5 NON-Vanos swap. I did it myself + a few friends over thanksgiving (its my only car, so i had to hurry). I had a few months of research/prep under my belt by then, and as a result everything went smoothly. I had previously upgraded the brakes and the suspension was replaced by the previous owner. It might make sense to upgrade a few things ahead of time, get done with school, then go for the swap. You can do everything, even the large case diff ahead of time. __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 01-09-2007, 07:05 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Lawton, Oklahoma Posts: 110 | one more thing! not that I'm planning on doing it (although it would be F***ing awesome) what is the deal with this v12 318ti I've heard about awhile back? | | | 01-09-2007, 08:39 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | That was called the Hurricane(maybe Typhoon) and it was built by Racing Dynamics for some sort of German tuner contest. I don't know what they did with it afterwards. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
