Gas mileage worked out to 28.925mpg. Was a good mix of city and highway driving, and there was quite a bit of spirited driving in there. Now my question is how big are our tanks? I filled up shortly after it had dipped into the red and it took a little more than 12.3 gallons, so I'm guessing 14-15 gallons, and if I had run it dry 400 tank miles would have been possible. Am I close? I replaced both of my O2 sensors and think that helped a little bit. (100,500 miles on car) I'd prefer a Top Tier gas like Shell but they are $$ where I live = $3.99/gallon vs. $3.82 for Hess Premium. | | | 05-03-2008, 01:43 AM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: TX Posts: 140 | Those EPA numbers seem really pessimistic. I always get at least 31.5 MPG via the OBC on the highway with cruise control and as high as 35.X. Accelerating like a grandma in the city nets about 25. 96 with 161k. | | | 05-03-2008, 03:00 AM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | i now get about 24 in the city mostly __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 05-03-2008, 06:43 PM | #21 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: CT Posts: 27 | I reset my OBC after I got my car, I drive a little over half my commute highway. I also enjoy some very spirited driving often. the OBC says I average 30.4mpg using 89 octane, in my 97 M44 with 80,000miles. __________________ 97 Boston Green 318ti Active | | | 05-03-2008, 07:07 PM | #22 | Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: MA Posts: 76 | Just filled up this morning, calculated out to be 28.4 mpg. This was all city and suburb type driving, about 3-5 mile trips and lots of cold starts. | | | 05-08-2008, 02:16 AM | #23 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: SOUTH Jersey Posts: 1,085 | Quote: Originally Posted by Mad-Machine I spend most of my time on county roads.. long stretches without lights at an average speed of 50 to 55mph... the OBC currently says 31.5 Car also just hit 122551 miles.. But to add insult to injury, that same trip taken in my "new" saab 900 turbo netted 34.9 mpg at the same speed. | | | 05-08-2008, 03:11 AM | #24 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Melbourne, Fl/Athens, AL Posts: 393 | Quote: Originally Posted by Borg561 Now my question is how big are our tanks? Justin | Judging by my last fill up, our tanks are probably around 14.3 gallons. __________________ -Kenny | | | 05-08-2008, 03:30 AM | #25 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Southern California - Orange county Posts: 978 | 14 gallon tank with 91 octane 450 miles so thats about 32 mpg i got an m42 __________________ 1995 318ti Cosmos Black Bilsteins w/ H&R Sport, Depos w/ angeleyes and HID 5K, 50% short throw kit, Custom fogged intake, AC schnitzer pedels w/ deadpedels, leather stickshift knob, vitesse tuning Ebreak boot w/ shift boot, X-Brace, 325/328 brake upgrade, Gray millpoint leather and cloth interior, custom computer multimedia system, and Style 5 BBS 17" rims, M3 Mirrors, CF Hood | | | 05-08-2008, 03:52 AM | #26 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Pittsburgh, PA Posts: 1,224 | Official specs list it at 13.7gal but I've put in around 14.2gal one day when the car was a bit thirsty. | | | 05-09-2008, 06:27 PM | #27 | Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: iowa Posts: 79 | I've taken mine to kansas city and back. Thats why i would like to find a better gear in the diff. Any ideas guys. And in town and driving all over(usually fast) about 26mpg. Yeah i run 92 octane to i get better mileage | | | 05-10-2008, 05:38 AM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Annapolis/College Park Posts: 337 | Filled her up for the second time and ended up with 29.8 MPG. It was mostly highway at higher speeds (over 70), with a couple spirited runs. Was on 89 Shell in my '97 M44, 140k __________________ She's no longer mine, but I gotta keep the pic Current euro: Black MkIII VW Gti VR6 | | | 05-10-2008, 02:06 PM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Omaha, NE Posts: 737 | Second tank verdict is in (yup, barely a week) and it averaged 31.85mpg on 89 octane. Technically it was city driving (to and from work), but in reality, about 80% of that was highway/interstate driving. My needle was about halfway through the redzone so I'm guessing the "Get gas now" feature (illuminating that red section) comes on with 1-1.5 gallons left. It's nice knowing our cars have a fairly accurate gas gauge too. In my previous two cars the gauge was terrible. In my Cavalier I could usually get 200 miles on the first "half tank" but only 100 miles or so on the second "half tank." Drove to Chicago one summer and filled up about halfway there, with just over a half tank of gas left supposedly. Yet it took a hair over 10 gallons of gas (on a 15.2 gallon tank). At least when the needle got to around E I knew about how much it was going to take. My Mirage on the other hand I never knew how much it would take. It supposedly had a 13.5 gallon tank (or so, I know it was 13.something). I would always fill up right after it dipped below a quarter of a tank left. The amounts it took ranged from 6.7 gallons to 9.4 gallons. Yeah i run 92 octane to i get better mileage | That almost exactly what I get running 89 Amoco or Shell. I have to make two 240 mile round trips every other weekend. __________________ | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
