Question Interesting TI. Worth the buy?

I have been looking for a project car for about a month now.
I fell in love with the TI

I found this add

http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ360057609

He says he wants around 800 for it, probably can get it for 600
The car has 287000 kms on it
He says it needs a new clutch, I am also expecting lots of other problems.

How much approximately would the cost of a clutch be?
and how much do you think I would have to spend on the car to get it into good working order.

It looks pretty rough... I would move on to a non-modified car that needed work.

If you are able to replace yourself you can get a clutch kit for around $200. If you take it to a shop id say any where from $350-500 total parts and labor.

As for total cost to get in working order we would have to know what all might be wrong with it first.

But from what I hear BMW parts can be very expensive.

Brakes
fuel and air filters
alternator
Belts
Basically I want to have a reliable engine
sorry I have so many questions. Im a new

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ358440524

I found a second add and the man selling it said he is willing to let it go for 2000$

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ358440524

it needs new front and back rotors, how much would the parts cost to replace them?

which do you think I should buy?

1997 BMW 318Ti
Hatchback, fully loaded
5 Spd Standard, 2 Dr, Black 201K
Clean Cloth interior, PW, PDL, Pwr Sunroof
Rust free exterior, minor surface rust on back under trunk
Vehicle is in very good running condition,
Recent brakes, clutch (2010) and tuneup last year.
Rack and pinion was serviced
Almost new set of tires (90% thread) on alloy rims.
Very Well Maintained and Clean.

i take it this mean "brake pads" since you are looking to replace the rotors.
it shouldn't be too much. just search any name brand brake suppliers for prices and styles. or, check on Ebay.

p.s. i like this one over the first car you showed us...so, i'd lean towards this one.

Sounds good enough for a grand or less. Here's the thing bmw parts aren't really any more costly than any other parts. However you are looking at an old car. Things will be wore out. So one way or another you will have repair costs that may total more than what you'd have buying a newer honda. Then again you will be driving a bmw not a honda and that should be worth something.
