Unhappy Cooked Postive Battery Cable

I'm really stuck and need some help/advice.

my 99ti had problems w/starting. It looked like it was the battery (it was about that time ~5 years). I had it checked, it was bad, so i got a new one.

It worked fine for a day or so then nothing. Took the battery out, had it checked twice and it was fine. so i started digging a little bit. come to find that it looks like the positive cable is pretty cooked and i need to get another one.

From the looks of it, and what my mechanic said, it's part of the front wiring harness. I couldn't believe it, but when i looked into real oem's site, i couldn't find it (i could find the negative, but not the positive).

At this point is it better to just do the relocation to the trunk or get a new positive cable at the parts store and make it work. Why/how does this tie into the wiring harness so closely?

Many thanks for your help.
Dave
