Default driving on the highway, hearing a clicking noise....

I was driving on the highway, hearing a clicking noise. I thought it could have been the brake retainer clip, but when I looked at the temp gauge it was in red. I pulled over, I saw some smoke come out from the hood. Waited about 45 min. I put some water in the raditor, it was bone dry. As I filled up the radiator, fluid would flow out from underneath the car. It looked like it was coming from the transmission area. I thought maybe the radiator was filled. When I tried to start the car, the engine wouldn't even crank. I only could hear the starter. What happened here? Did my engine die?

I'm sorry about that man. I have no idea but hope it works out. Mine died on the freeway before, sucks, Engine locked due to a oil leak. 3500 to get repaired. That's what it was for me. I downshifted, floored it, and the engine just died. maybe that can help. Took them a couple of days to figure it out.

how long was the temp gauge in the red? that's not good.

could be the plastic coolant fittings on the back of the head, if they break the coolant could pour out at the back of the engine which would seem like it's at the transmission.

Is "the Head" refering to the head gasket?
