hey guys. okay so my parents are in the market for a new car. first the were talking about a mercedes. then i talked them into a 3 series.... btw, they're looking into used; like a 2003 or newer.

now my mom is liking the Land Rover. So... i wanted to see what you guys think of the Land Rover. its specs, your opinions, your likings, dislikes, anything you have to say about it.
they found one for $10k with about 60k miles on it locally from the help of my uncle.

I would go with a Jeep or an X5. From what i remember i think Land Rovers may have some wiring issues. I'm not not sure but i read it here in the forum somewhere.

Which Land Rover, that makes a huge difference. I have always hated the Discovery, but I love Ranges.

IIRC, LR's have a fair amount of electrical problems once they get above 100k miles. I think relays and stuff just start wearing out, that's why I don't have a late 80's one.

If they like Fords, then they will love the Land Rover since that is who owns Land Rover Unless it was sold to the Indian comapnay that was interested. I personally think they are no good, lots of mechanical issues. The Range Rover is a better vehicle but they also have issues. BMW all the way and I'm still waiting for you to text me to hook them up with a BMW

Landrover has bad engine problems. My dad bought his 03' Discovery brand new, kept it in great condition, did every service, low miles (34k) up until last month when we heard a tapping sound. It sounded like the valve was tapping, but when it went to the dealer they said the cylinder sleeve shifted upwards and that was what we were hearing. They said we needed a new engine, he tried to fight it and lost so all Landrover of NA offered was $1k off the engine and labor which was $7k and the dealer offered 0.05% off for a used engine. Bad experience especially for my dad who always keeps all of his cars looking brand new no matter how old they are. My old boss who has his own Euro shop used to own a landrover, but got rid of it because of mechanical issues. Tell them to stay away from Landrovers. The e70 X5 is badass tho, we have 2 of them at school (BMW STEP/Fast Track) and they're awesome.
