Default My e36 Compact drift car Missile

Thought i would stick up a build thread for my 328 Compact drift car. I have a daily Dakar ti compact but last year wanted to build something to enjoy on the track and really not worry about this.
So an already 328 engine conversion compact was bought from a friend up here in Scotland
Now this was supposed to be a budget car but has slightly got out of hand haha.

Here is a copy from another forum over here in the uk up to where i am now. Things have slightly changed in the last week will up date asap

hope you enjoy the read and advice always welcome

Brief Spec when i got the car

- 328i engine change
- e46 arms with polbushes
- stainless manifolds
- coilovers
-hydro
- welded diff

only pic i have just now

went with the 8j revolutions think they suit it very well and not your usual bbs wheels

Removed as much of the interior

New wheel and boss

bought this side mount seat

My full compact cage arrived from Italy with a week to go before driftland so any spare time i had was put into getting it all fitted into place

got it all test fitted in after alot of skinned knuckles and ratchet straps through the windows and also after removing the sunroof which was going to leave me with issues later on.

So cage and new seat and harness all in quick rattle can of the inside with some matt black paint i had kicking about.
Happy with the result.

The this is where things turned stupid!!!!!! ) =)) ) =)) I had it in my head i wanted to go over the car in Matt white plasti dip, just to make it my own car.
So heads to paint supplier near by and its not something they stock........
But for some stupid reason i get talked into 13 tins of Kawasaki Green rattle cans they had kicking about YUP YOU GUESSED IT DISASTER STRUCK

Not one tin was the same shade of green and having rattle canned one side i was past the point of return.... Looked awful.
So off to Halfrauds to pick up some cheap as possible white paint by now a full bodyshop paint was in the budget i had ended up spending on rubbish.

I had two days to go till Driftland weather had turned bad and not enough paint to do the car..........
Out came the Homebase white gloss and roller to get the car to at least one colour... It looks horendous and is now booked in with a mate to get a full car paint.
But i cant fault the car. hammered it all day and it just kept wanting more great Sunday lots of Skids and only broken part was my new roof that was rivoted on rather quickly was popping off in places hahaha ) =))

Some Pics from Sunday

Well back bobbing about out at sea for another couple of weeks so thought i would update with the changes to the car when i was home last trip and a few pics of me drifting.,

PLans for the car when i was back was basically give it a wash and do a skid. Still got the slr kit and bc coilovers to fit ended up with two sets so trying to sell the others on.

Anyway never got a chance to fit the kit as the day i was along at the yard, my painter buddy in the yard next door kept making a point of the mess the car looked on the outside.....

So a decision was made with only 24 hours till the next drift even madness!!!!

So 11.30 am on the Thursday this happened

Car was stripped down quickly and spent up till about 5pm rubbing it down, we were not looking for a flawless paint job mearly a blow over

Car was all masked up and in the booth by 6pm

and by 7.30pm the car was in paint Added a few extra little touches with parts i had kicking about like the m3 bumper and mirrors just to freshen the car up and also wheels were wipped off and giving a fresh paint.

by 9.30pm the day was done but was chuffed with the results.

Next morning it was build up time which left us with this

So Saturday morning arrived of the driftland weekender and car was mega as usual only faults were the welded viscous fan hit the radiator so two radiators and viscous fans used over the weekend and a burst exhaust manifold but who care amazing weekend.

This is where i am up to now, it is also when things got a little silly. From what was supposed to be a drift budget missile car. My new SLR steering kit has arrived and we have a new heart!!!

So yesterday things were getting ready to be started 328 is getting removed and put into a silver compact i have sitting in the yard and will be used by one of the pro drivers coming over to Scotland for an event next month

Lots more updates as the weeks pass. The silver car needs to be ready for next month so is the main focus so will share info on both cars on this thread

Thanks for reading
Neil
