My guess would be that the concentration of sediment is higher below 1/4 tank. That's just a guess though.

Where is the fuel pump located? It might also be a pump cooling issue.

I've heard this theory too, but I disagree. I'd rather let the fuel filter take care of it (since that's its job) rather than let it build up. Eventually, it'll be 1/2, then 3/4 of a tank.

One thing it will most definitely prevent, is the fuel reserve light burning out. Yeah, mine's gone.

i guess i kinda go on this theory too. i try to run mine down pretty low almost every tank full. the only time i might not is when it's really cold and i don't want water that may be in there freezing up. i guess i'm lucky, my fuel low light still works.

Yeah, I forgot about that. Keep a full tank when it's cold out to prevent condensation not only freezing, but getting into the fuel system in the first place.

i use 89, and 91. It seems like 91 lasts a little longer, but i think my car averaging about 20-22 MPG, i dont know why. someone???

i would guess you do almost all city driving, running crappy gas or something else isn't quite right.

how many miles on your car? have you done general tune up items (filters, spark plugs, etc)? do you have any error codes set (some won't trigger the check engine light)?

my dad is a mechanic, who does check up on it like every few months. and yea i drive in the streets/freeway. Maybe because i drive 80mph on the freeway all the time. And i use either Chevron, Arco, or Shell gas. **** those cheapy gas stations.

when i was driving 75-80mph on the freeway, i was still getting ~30mpg. you should be getting better than 20-22. any codes?

i used to be getting 22 or so...then it went down to 17...replaced the thermostat and now im back up to 22ish! no clue why i cant get good gas mileage...

Aside from the obvious (fuel / air filter, plugs, o2 sensors, tire pressure), what weight oil are you kids running? Auto/Manual? What mode (if auto)? I'd give that seafoam stuff a shot too.

I used to get about 450 miles to the tank; when I added the roof racks it only dropped about 50 miles from the range. 80-90mph the entire way, and often triple digits in certain areas. It's more driving style than speed.

FYI, both Chevron and Shell are reputable fuel companies. Only if you're going to boondock stations the day they fill tanks should that be a concern.

I try to just keep the tank full all the time. I'm not a Nazi, its not like I'll stop at the gas station because it's at 1/2 or anything, but it is better for the fuel system to keep it full of gas. Keeps condensation out and keeps the gas more fresh (provided you use the car). Ethanol in blended fuel does not take well to water, almost everything here is blended.

Really they should save the ethanol for the vodka and just use the gasoline. Why burn corn. Corn tastes good. So does vodka with corn. What gives!!!
