I've got a 95 with the M42. I've had a strange rattle underneath the car that I was hoping was just a heat shield. When I crawled around underneath there this weekend I didn't even see a heatshield covering the cat so I'm pretty sure thats not it. When I grabbed the pipe I burned my hand. So I let it cool down and then grabbed it again and shook it I was able to determine that the rattle was definitely coming from the cat. I've seen several discussions on here about OBD II cats but not much for the OBD I. I've got until then end of this month before I have to pass my GA emissions and I'm poor so I need to try to find cheap solutions quickly. I've been told my a reputable local BMW shop that I should just get an aftermarket cat and have an exhaust shop weld it on but I wanted to see if anyone had any specific recommendations for an aftermarket OBD I cat. Thanks for the help everyone! | | | 05-14-2008, 11:51 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by Johnny Utah When I grabbed the pipe I burned my hand. | lol, nice IIRC, OBDI tis didn't have an O2 sensor after the cat so you shouldn't have a problem with an aftermarket one as far as CELs are concerned | | | 05-19-2008, 05:39 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Atlanta, GA Posts: 70 | Okay, looks like an aftermarket cat is the best and cheapest way to go. Does anyone know if the ti has the 2.5 or 3 inch pipe? | | | 05-19-2008, 09:24 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | IIRC it's a 2.5", I really don't think BMWs entry level economy car would have a 3" factory exhaust | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
