The Z3 and the 323ti both flip the spare over creating a recess for the battery to sit down into but the Z3 puts the battery long ways vs sideways for the 323ti but the Z3 also uses a different style of jack... The handle and cable have the same part number for both cars on realoem. Right now I only have one left, but I should get a few 323ti's for part out in the near future, so... __________________ Want car parts? I have a complete Z3 setup but RealOEM lists the 323ti parts as different but they must be very similar. Any possibility of getting just the recessed battery tray section of sheet metal? For anyone interested, I am attaching photos of the Z3 trunk pan section where the battery recess is. Effectively, the Z3 trunk floor is the same except for the battery recess and the tire mount points for the lowering cable and retaining nut on the passenger side. __________________ 98 318ti MSport M52, 88 M3, 97 M3/4 Last edited by Trusted-1; 05-22-2016 at 09:41 PM. | | | 05-22-2016, 07:00 AM | #233 | Member Join Date: Feb 2016 Location: ABQ Posts: 52 | Trusted - I think those of us with swaps are interested to see if you can make this work. I don't see how it will be possible without the sheet metal below since the tire mount is offset. I'm wondering if the tire holder itself isn't different too (different P/Ns). I'm hoping that you figure out a way and that it's doable by mere mortals. Good luck sir! | | | 05-24-2016, 05:27 PM | #234 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: Germany Posts: 375 | Quote: Originally Posted by Trusted-1 Any possibility of getting just the recessed battery tray section of sheet metal? | That would require cutting the piece out of the car, right? Is it just this car that can't be cut up or is it the process of doing so that is the issue? Might it be possible on one of the next 323ti car you find to get the sheet metal battery pan cut out? The part is smaller than the Z3 one I took a photo of just the actual battery tray recess which would be easier to remove. Whatever you are able to help with would be awesome. The next 323t should come in any time next week, I'll keep you guys posted! __________________ Want car parts? I bet those are a bit expensive to make up over here. - Eric | | | 05-24-2016, 08:50 PM | #238 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Jax, FL Posts: 541 | Eric, Just go to any salvage yard in the US and pull the (+) cable from any E36 Sedan or Coupe. Don't forget the power distribution block that is attached inside the E36 engine bay (next to right side fender). | | | 05-24-2016, 09:50 PM | #239 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Hudson Valley Posts: 229 | Sure, that's what I would do, or use the cables I pulled out of an early 911 years ago, but I'm just saying that there may be interest from some folks here who want their installations to be as "factory" as possible. - Eric | | | 05-26-2016, 02:15 PM | #240 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: Germany Posts: 375 | Quote: Originally Posted by Eric You know what I'd bet those guys who want (or need) to put their batteries in the back would probably like to buy? -- Those nice thick wires that run from the battery to the front of the car.
