Default New TI owner in Oxnard CA

Picked Up a 1998 318TI Mtech, or so I was told. I am still completely new to all this. but I've been obsessive over the last week, and am excited to learn. I've built and worked on a few American muscles and Rats in my time, but never even thought about BMW... until I saw the 318... Now I want another.. haha..

Anyways shes automatic, came with a laundry list of small issues I've mostly sorted through over the weekend, and sounds a little like a diesel when shes running. after lurking I believe its chain tensioner, but I'm taking her into a certified mechanic on Sat.

Shes alot of fun to play with, and drive. I'm hoping to get her all dolled up, and running great, then give her to the wife so I can buy a 5 speed manual version next..

I did purchase the 318ti off of another member on here I believe.. but I dont know his name on here..
I went to realoem and got the following data on the 318:

09/1997 E36 318ti Compact M44 USA Left hand drive Automatic
Production Code: CG83

Congrats and Welcome! I used to live in Santa Barbara and know there are a bunch of cool roads in the area to further enjoy the car. A 5 speed would be especially fun.

There are a few members here that can run the last 7 of your VIN to confirm the options that your car was purchased with.

I too got an Auto for my wife and eyeing another for my son. good commute cars, but the 5 speed is the toy.

Good luck in your renewals and search for a 5 speed.

Tchau!

Thanks! I have to say, a lot of the guys at work with tuners really like my 318. I'm a proud owner!
