However, looking at the TMS page, it would seem that they offer a shark injector with EWS delete, but only for E36 OBDII M3 with modifications, and nothing for 328i. Anyone know for sure here? Not that I plan to intentionally, but if I should ever take my ti to a state or locality where they run emmisions, I may have to upgrade to OBDII (I am currently running an OBD1 M50TU in my 97.) Just curious. -Paul | | | 02-04-2007, 02:50 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Not sure... I would think you can program just about anything out of the ECU... Worst case, find a wrecked obdII car, take the EWS unit, the ring from the ignition, and the ignition and swap it all out. You would probably also have to get the ECU matched to the EWS unit, unless you also used the ECU from the same car that you get the EWS out of. | | | 02-05-2007, 05:59 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Charlottesville, VA Posts: 234 | I know that you can either use the EWS and matching DME from an EWSII car (OBDII) or you can have your EWS alligned to the new DME (EWSII only) at the dealer for $$, but I was not sure about a straight EWSII delete shark injector. -Paul | | | 02-06-2007, 11:18 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | I would try to keep the EWS-II system if you can. It has proven to be one of the more effective measures to combat automobile theft in Germany: | | | 02-15-2007, 11:26 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Cashville,TN Posts: 124 | Something doesnt sound right about this. I wouldnt delete it. Sounds like problems that would be unwanted down the line. __________________ Mmm.. | | | 02-21-2007, 12:16 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Charlottesville, VA Posts: 234 | Well, mine has already been deleted. I never have to worry about it, and I never have to worry about what motor I swap into the car later. Win-win for me... | | | 02-21-2007, 05:10 AM | #7 | doesn't care about you. I want the details too. __________________ Mmm.. | | | 02-28-2007, 06:16 PM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: nowhere Posts: 2 | Hi all, I just found a 1993 318is and 1996 328i long block with harness/DME and EWS stuff for cheap, so I bought them both. So I am in the same boat, but I found someone that can help. James Clay at bimmerworld.com says he can delete the EWS and provide a tune for their standard custom tune price. This option for the 328 is not listed on their price list, but you can see that they have options for OBD-II M3 programs that delete EWS. You need to send in your DME, of course. Also, the people at AA would not help me. Not sure why, since I'm sure they know how to delete EWS. The dealer wouldn't help either; they won't touch anything out of the norm. The tune is $399... but as you know, that is a one-time flash. Since I want to do some tuning myself later on, I'm thinking now that I will just put the $399 towards an OBD-I harness and DME and bypass the whole EWS issue altogether. That way I don't have to keep sending in the DME each time I do something simple, like change the MAF. | | | 03-04-2007, 05:10 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Portland, Oregon Posts: 484 | eliminating ews on OBD1 E36 is very simple. Requirement - non EWS Chip to match car (e.g ecu # 0261200413 for 325/m3) You will need to cut pin 66 on the DME side so the EWS system does not send signal to the ecu. I can provide tuning software for OBD1. I have, for the past year, run my own software without any issues. __________________ S50 Swap, Euro 3.5" HFM (MAF), my custom Chip, Cosmo CAI, Custom Exhaust, 6 Cyl. The EWS-deleted DME should be useable with any other EWS or non-EWS OBD-II car (meaning that you can swap the engine without worrying whether or not it will start). | | | 03-28-2007, 08:30 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Charlottesville, VA Posts: 234 | Got the chip from Turner Motorsport (i believe that is who Clay gets his chips from anyway.) Installed chip in computer, removed EWS module and jumped the starter wire that used to be controlled by the EWS box. TMS uses Conforti chips, and they will do upgrades for up to 6 months for free, after that, a nominal fee. EWS is not rocket science, don't overpay to have it deleted. OBDII cars do require a reflash, but TMS does that too. I think the shark injector can do it, so you do not need to send in your ECU. They probably don't advertise this much die to liability, but call TMS up and ask them. -paul | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
