I'm actually having sort of the same problem, except my car will just randomly have a gassy smell, at no particular point in time. Sorry that I can't help, but I need any possible answers too!

My car does the same as well. Wonder if it could be a faulty cat converter?

Hey Steve... I know we have a search function in the forum... but is there anyway we can have some kind of "Quick Problem Refrence Guide" kinda like the BMW Mechanics have?... basically a compilation of every common and "proven to be widespread" problem on our cars?

Don't get me wrong... the search function is absolutely great for finding forums relating to what you're looking for... but sometimes there is alot of fluff you gotta look through. Just an idea...

places to check ... hose/clamp connections at the tank (under both access covers under the rear seat), overflow tank hose/clamp connections (behind the right rear [US passenger] interior panel), fuel lines/fuel filter connections, charcoal canister under the hood.

the best place (if people would populate it) to store information is the knowledgebase. write up an article!
