I usually dont post in this forum simply because I usually find my answers simply by searching but I need some HELP from the experts since I can't find any good mechanics around here. 1. My car sputters at idle, kind of like a backfire, it does it like every 30 seconds.(It has new ignition coil, plugs, and o2 sensor) 2. There is a whining sound coming from the tranny when clutch is not engaged, when I press the clutch in the noise goes away. 3. When in neutral, and I press on the gas really fast the car misfires, but if I press the gas slowly the car does not misfire. Other than that the car runs fine. I scanthe codes just incase something is in there even though it did not turn on the CEL. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-04-2006, 02:22 PM | #3 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | (cel light may have been removed, or is simply burned-out) Also sounds like a bad throw-out bearing. When was the clutch last replaced? Was the entire kit done, or just the clutch disc alone? If it is original, or it's been a long while since replacement, you may want to plan on a new clutch kit (pilot bearing, throw-out bearing, disc and pressure plate). Also, riding your foot on the clutch while in gear, at a stop light for example, puts excessive wear on the t-out bearing. Put it in neutral, and get your foot off the clutch! Also, (but a bit off topic) driving, while using the shift knob as a hand rest will accelerate the wear to the shifter forks... | | | 05-04-2006, 02:33 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: England, UK Posts: 1,288 | Quote: Originally Posted by J!m Also, (but a bit off topic) driving, while using the shift knob as a hand rest will accelerate the wear to the shifter forks... | That sounds VERY dodgy! __________________ 1995 BMW 316i Cosmos Black Mods: • Magnex Cat-Back Exhaust • Smoked Corner Lights + Repeators • M3 17" Wheels • De-Baffled Air Box • AC HandBrake Handle and Gear Knob • DEPO Euro Epsiloids + Predator Chronium Rings • Chrome Interior bits •IE Poly-Urethane RSFMs • Kenwood Power Series Audio • Powder Coated e36 325 Front Callipers • Sports Seats | | | 05-04-2006, 02:48 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Indianapolis, IN Posts: 228 | Quote: Originally Posted by stormos That sounds VERY dodgy! | Hey, leave my shifter forks out of this discussion. | | | 05-04-2006, 04:47 PM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Italy Posts: 10 | CEL is not on, but I will try to take it somewhere to see if the computer is throwing any codes. | | | 05-04-2006, 04:53 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Italy Posts: 10 | Wanna see some pics?
