My passenger rear shock is shot, and I think all the oil from the inside managed to leak out onto the garage floor before I caught it Needless to say, I'm in need of new rear shocks. As of now I'm running the H&R race+Bilstein combo and love it. Got quoted $200 for new Bilstein shocks for just the rear, and that seemed high to me. I'm off to search, but there's gotta be a better deal out there. I don't track the car (at all) enough to warrant spending much extra $$. I know stock won't cut it, but I'm sure there's something in the middle. Suggestions. Is that the going rate for shocks and I'm just in denial? I was a truck guy, and always bought used for cheap. $100/shock just seems crazy to me. thanks guys __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. You can get sport shocks for 40 a piece at NAPA. Bilsteins arent cheap for any bmw, youre in denial. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 03-13-2010, 05:03 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bluebimma youre in denial. | I'm afraid he's right, $100 a piece is the typical price for those from what I've found | | | 03-13-2010, 07:20 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2008 Location: North Carolina Posts: 190 | Sorry if this is a little off topic, but it may be a good idea if it works well for the price. I was wondering about a mcoupe suspension from a low end brand like monroe. Bluebimma, i know you have use/used oem mcoupe suspension, how do you think the monroe would ride. Think they would be a good upgrade on the ti? Would they be of good quality? I have no experience with monroe.. I would be replace old koni adjustables. And playing around with different mcoupe aftermarket springs. Your threads are the only ones I could find with a mcoupe suspension on a ti. Budget, tirerack has the koni street strut for 68, and the kyg for 54. Not sure if they would work with your setup, but could be good if you are on a tight budget? | | | 03-13-2010, 04:50 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bluebimma Get a set of Monroes for a z3 2.8 or mcoupe if possible. I know if you're happy with em I will be. Looked ab Bilsteins last night, they arent cheap for anything haha. I never realized. I did see the KYG's cheap, didn't see the Konis. thanks guys. I can't justify spending 2x as much Bilsteins when I don't use the car for much but daily driving. __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. I don't know what it covers, time to go read. It looks like a seal gave out at the top of the shock. All of the oil leaked out and it makes a nice sucking/bad seal noise when the cars bounced __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. I may be able to get it waranteed, but I've got to pull it either way. To pull it I have to tear my whole trunk apart, which includes taking out about 15 different wires, the false floor, the fiberglass sub enclosure, THEN the stock carpet and stuff. At that point I might as well put two new ones in, and then try to get a new one. On their site they say something about how they should last 100k+ miles. There's NO way they have near that, maybe 20k at most. __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. H&R race springs F+R. If that were the case, youd be able to go to the junkyard, find some one a wrecked chassis, then turn them in for new ones. Im sure you need proof of purchase. As far as Monroes go, i have them on my 96 in the rear with OE SACHS mroady up front. My rears were destroyed in the wreck of my clubsport. The monroes came like two days after ordering them from Napa arizona and shipping to my job for free. They now have a bit over 6k on them and ride just fine. Only time will tell, but ive got my 80$ worth out of them honestly. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 Last edited by Bluebimma; 03-14-2010 at 02:18 PM. | | | 03-14-2010, 06:16 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | Tony, thanks again for the reply, I think I'm going to go with the Monroes. I'm not the original purchaser, but they've only been on this car, and the guy didn't drive it much with this setup before I bought it. You're probably right with proof of purchase. I wouldn't hold my breath hoping to get a replacement. __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. H&R race springs F+R.
