I was tempted to wait and get one of the second gens, but I don't want to deal with the early model run problems that all BMW produced cars seem to have

I did some research on these cars when they first came out. I read that they are made in South America, Brazil if I recall. Where did you hear they are made in England?

The original Morris Minis where made in England.

Well made in all things is relative. They are assembled in Oxford, but like all cars they are 'made' all over the place.

The motors were made in Brazil by a joint venture between Daimler Chrysler and BMW (Which incidentally why BMW is buying motors from Peugeot from now on). The engines are less powerful and have a worse torque and HP curve than the old 1.6l supercharged motors which now will be turbocharged (Old Works vs New Works) but will probably have slightly higher gas mileage figures. They're assembled in the old Morris car plant in Cowley, Oxford. Components of the new PSA/Citroen motor will be produced in Douvrin, France and assembled in the new Birmingham, UK factory. They will feature Direct Injection and VVT.

Maybe it will be built better. We are sick of going back to the dealer all the time. I swear, my 98ti never was in for warranty as much as the MINI. And turbos have come a long way.

My wife did her first driving school with the MINI. After two sessions she wasn't feeling well so I asked the Chief Instructor if i could go out with an instructor.
The car is a ball. Other than the runcraps making it a bit challenging and the fact that the brake fluid was 3 years old, the car was a lot of fun. I started to feel some fade so we didn't go out for the 4th sessions. Orginally the school format was supposed to be a car control clinic in the morning and 2 hot sessions after lunch. I figured the fluid would be fine for my wife's first school. Sorry I didn't flush it out now so I could have had another session.

The car could use some sways and with good tires, it might be a keeper.

If all goes as planned S10Mafia15 will half purchase my ti. We will then turn the ti into an XP SCCA car. The both of us will co-drive the car to keep costs down. He also has a farm so it can be trailered to events easily on a car hauler being pulled by diesel. The ti will basically be gutted with some sort of fender flares extra bracing and a cage. Possibly the car could also be run in one of the GT Nasa Classes. Hopefully that will turn out ok, but I still plan on autocrossing the MINI S. It will be nice to have a car that is competitive in its class.

The runflats are being ditched as soon as they wear out. I am not a fan of those.
