Thumbs up New 1999 318ti M-Sport Owner in Washington DC

Hello 318ti World!

Looked for a while for a 318ti, used to have a 1999 323i and recently sold a 1993 325i. Checked a lot on Craigslist but upon visiting them they turned out mediocre and some with serious body damage. Finally found a car at a good price because of high miles, but it's a M-Sport which is a plus!

Really liked this car (brought through this site) the interior was really great and after all of the work put into this car, it just needed was a window regulator or motor. Will have to install that before taking that to the inspection station in DC.

And as I said the interior looks pretty good. The headliner is beginning to go, though.

The paint still shines! Does have clear paint flaking on the hood as seen closely in the picture above. Also have rust bubbles surfacing... suggestions, people?

UNFORTUNATELY, I have to remove the tinted film off the windows. Isn't the first time, though. Vividly remember sadly scrapping off tilt off my 1999 323i in the inspection lot after just getting failed. When done, went through inspection without problems. Scrapping the film off at home this time instead. Although in DC you can run out and get a $99 tint job then scrape it off again for when inspection expires in two years. Repeat.

Priority: Will need to order parts and fix passenger window with some of the DIY's on the web, hopefully all works out! Any other suggestions for what to do with this car, 318ti Fans??

This is my first manual transmission BMW and am really enjoying it!

Jason

Good luck.
Can hardly tell it was in an accident.

The headliner is very common.
I use staples to hold it in place.

Damn, 1 post and already a site supporter.

And welcome.

just need some m mirrors and you are set.. i need that rear bumper so badly.. i love your interior and the steering wheel is a big plus..

with the paint issues.. you might need to get a respray.. my clear coat(red ti also) is flaking and looks pink in some areas.. i heard you can sand down the rust also..

Reason: Yeah, will check into the new M side mirrors. While waiting for window regulators/motors been researching on www for rust solutions. Want to make sure I do it right... will fix the spots myself and take it in for respray.

Thanks Squeelerz. This was a good buy yeah... needs preventive work. A good car to hang onto for a long time for sure.

Yeah, this car has 255,104 miles! Should last quite a bit with the usual maintenance. Not swapping out anything... don't have $$ for that.

Needs a oil change in 1k.

Nope. Look at the mounting holes- if you flipped it wouldn't work.

Glad you were able to pick up the car- I'm headed out to DC on Wed. and was probably only days away from picking it up myself. Looks like a very clean ride- definitely one to hold on to.

BTW- what's up with the wheel studs?

I hadn't noticed the wheel studs.
The do make swapping wheels a bit easier.

Also take a look at
IMPORTANT: Two plastic cooling system parts that WILL break.

Yeah, the previous owner was an autocrosser, thats why. Rear tire 75% tread life left, front tires almost gone. Go figure, huh?

Yeah, last year the thermostat and water pump blew on the 325i I had, lucky was just turning into driveway. Fixed it all up nice.

Yeah I like the wheel studs.
