It is like $30-50 from BMW. __________________ Custom Cold Air Intake, Custom IAT controller, SuperSprint Exhaust, High Flow CAT, Long Tube Header, H&R 'Race' Lowering springs, Short Shifter, JB Racing Lightweight Flywheel, M3 Clutch Kit w/Rogue Semi-Metalic Disk, Zex Nitrous System, Euro Clear Corners, Elipsoid Headlights w/Halos, Eyebrows, Window Tinting, Invisible Bra | | | 04-13-2005, 05:42 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Great White North! Posts: 701 | Hey guys, I had the same problem when my alarm started going off for no apparent reason. The switch itself was the culprit. It's a very easy swap. The switch itself isn't expensive. I'll get you the part # first chance I get. Lighting came on over rough roads and the alarm would go off sometimes while parked. Cause: hatch was moving while closed. Cause: the latch was pulling out of the rivets in the hatch door itself. This isn't pretty. There's nothing like fresh metal for rivets--versus re-welds or doing some body work. So, a new hatch frame was the solution. Im hope it's not that. As a side note, be very careful when you adjust the rubber stops on the ends of the hatch. I think this caused weird movement and stress on the hatch. -B __________________ '98 ti, open-air roof | | | 04-13-2005, 11:18 PM | #8 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | did you get a new hatch or a used one? what did you pay? __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 04-14-2005, 12:07 AM | #9 | Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: San Francisco, CA Posts: 47 | Got a new hatch and bumper....some idot rear-ended me just enough to force the latch completely out. Sometimes when i park my car and close the trunk, the alarm will chirp 3 times (as if something was open). and...when it actually locks (with the alarm chirping once), it sometimes just goes off for no apparent reason. What I do is close the trunk and push down a little hard via license plate and then lock the truck with my key (turn clockwise until horizontal and take key out in horizontal position). Then after that, activate the alarm and it should chirp once. I haven't had a problem with the alarm going off when I do this. I hope my advice helps somebody. -Randy __________________ 97 Jet Black 318ti Sport. Not so stock anymore!.... It's a little hard to line everything up by your self but definitely do able. I just have to replace my switch now... | | | 06-29-2015, 03:45 PM | #15 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Quote: Originally Posted by 318tibimmer Mine was doing the same thing actually was the Plastic down where the button presses, the plastic is worn away, either fill up the wear mark with something or replace the plasic molding. I'm going to order a new switch, and see how worn the plastic is that the button sets on. I don't think anything is wrong with the hatch itself, that would be overkill If anyone is looking for the tail trim plastic piece, check here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_2163 Last edited by BMW_Hatchback; 06-29-2015 at 05:14 PM. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
