If anybody is interested in doing a group buy on the auto to manual swap, there is a place here in new england that sell the complete kit for $1395.00.

Maybe if there is enough interest I can give them a call and see what they can do. They claim that it brings everything you need so no need to source any parts. Includes: new rear engine seal, SACHS clutch kit, hydraulic components, guibo, transmission mounts, center bearing, shift boot and more.

yeah i see how long that nozzle end is...looks like the short ones are very convienent.

just curious where you got your pedal set from....parted car im assuming or ordered somewhere?

a kit would be nice but i wont be attempting this project for a while...not until 1) i get a very high paying job so i can fund this project myself, 2) my auto transmission failes on me and my parents help fund the project or 3) i start asking for a few parts for christmas/birthday every year and save it in a box until i have it all! lol

im still a pretty far away from actually starting to buy parts...iim still very much so in the preliminary stage...but depending on when others are looking to buy i may be in.

i was thinking if my transmission fails...my parent would probably be williing to chip in for a kit that just includeds everything....since the transmission is broken....but if my auto tranny is still intact, then the only feasible way i could do this swap is if i save my money and buy cheap parts of part cars.

so right now im hoping my tranny fails soon....haha j/k...

For my pedal set, I started looking on www.car-part.com for manual transmission E36's at salvage yards nearby. When I found one, I went to the yard to see if I could take any parts off of it. Thankfully, they just got the car in, so it was still untouched, sitting in their yard. I then gave them a couple realoem.com diagrams of the parts I wanted off of it.

The hard part about this is that when salavage yards get in cars, they usually only sit around, in tact, for a short while. Then they disassemble them and crush the frame and stuff they can't sell. They of course pull the tranny/engine/etc, and parts that they can sell, but stuff like pedals and shift linkages usually get thrown out.

Maybe some larger salvage yards keep the car frame and misc. parts sitting in the yard?? Kind of like a "pull-a-part" DIY set-up, although only the employees can rummage around the cars.

It's gonna take a bit of work though to find this stuff.

I commend you greatly. YOU , sir, are on top of things. You have been extremely helpful.

one last question for a while...

at car-part.com the drop down menu has rear and front drive shafts...realoem doesnt seem to show different (rear/front) drive shafts though...just curious which one is the 'one'

thanks for putting up with my dumb questions...obviously i have a lot to learn before i get started on this project...but thats why im asking questions and trying to figure stuff out.

^ I think the front driveshaft is in reference to 4WD vehicles that would have a driveshaft coming forward from the transfer case. If you select the rear driveshaft they should come up.

Great deal there FATHER. I'd love to just part ways with my auto just to free up my garage space.

For the earlier pedal question, I got mine on ebay. Actually came complete with both brake and clutch pedals, braket (which was a newer version than my 95), clutch spring, CMC and all electrical switches. I actually got pretty lucky to find this complete setup. It made the change a breeze.

I'm not so sure that long nozzle CMC will work on our cars. Mine is very short like the one in Cirrus' picture. You may need to modify the firewall (read: drill another hole) and mod the hard-line to get that to work.

The plug-in style interface is the same as mine.

i had a crazy dream last night about this...i was just chilling then all of a sudden l84thsky popped up and was like, 'hey, im l84thsky, i have lots of transmission parts and ill give them all to you just because i like you...hell ill even do the work and give you a 5 speed swap for free'

and then i had a 5 speed car and not an automatic lol...thanks L84thsky!

on a side note...my pops talked to his buddy at work who said it would be easier to just sell it and buy a different car...so i asked if we could do that...and my pops said absolutely not...and my mom freaked out and got pissed at me and called me an ungrateful child because im not thankful for what im given and she gave me a damn speech about how i have so much more than her when she was my age etc etc etc....whatever **** that

it may not be for a while...but if my ti is still running in a few years...when i have a high paying co-op/job after school...the first 2 grand i get are going to a swap whether they want to help me out or not.

and im ****ing pissed about being called an ungrateful child...i dont agree that wanting something new/different than what you have means you are ungrateful.

oh well i guess im just a bad kid for wanting a manual transmission

I'm not L84thsky, nor do I have parts for your car, but I could possibly help with the install when the time comes to do the swap if you want to do the work yourself. If your car is in great shape, I'd do the swap rather than sell/buy another. The ti's are getting harder to find a good unmolested version of one.

looking back to what cars I had when I was younger, you are very lucky to have a ti to drive, even if it is an auto.

agree...that is what pisses me off is that i realize how lucky i am...and i wouldnt really want to sell my car because of all the work ive already put in it...i was really just seeing what they would say

it just kinda sucks because i appreciate everything my parents have given me...i have taken very good care of this car...and havent wrecked it like my sister did to hers (hey they baught her another car...maybe i should just wreck mine eh?) im not an idiot...i realize how lucky i am and i found that pretty offensive...but anyway on to other things.

a transmission swap is something i really really want...which means that even though my parents dont see it as a good idea...i am more than willing to work my tailfeathers off to fund this project...and i would love to do the work myself since working on my car is my favorite hobby. i have already been searching carparts.com or whatever and have located nearly all the parts for decent enough prices. i figure ill slowly just gather parts...like ask for a few things for my b-day...christmas...save all my money from my job for any left over parts and then do the swap. i figure if i collect parts over a longer period of time, i can absorb the cost easier. not sure the time frame for this yet, but i am determined to make it happen eventually. ive even studied mr. bentley and pelican parts tutorials and have a basic idea of how to disassemble just about everything.

youd help with the install? sweet...ill remember that andy when the time comes for a project this big id be much more comfortable working with someone that has the experience that you have.

now just out of curiosity...what are benefits of having a manual transmission. of course its a lot more manly (heh) ... and they are generally more relibable...but problem being i cant use that as a bargaining point with the parents because they say my auto transmission installed by the factory is more reliable then me swapping out the entire drive train with old/used parts (which makes sense) im at a loss for why exactly this is such a great idea in terms that parents will understand (im going to assume they wont ever understand..well my mom at least...she hates that i got this car...my pops understands the coolness of a manual, but doesnt want to dump 2g's into the car if it isnt broken)
