It looks terrible while it's up, worse than a stock license plate holder IMO. So it's only useful while you're parked or taking pictures of your car. At least in my state you need a front plate while driving down the road so I would need to leave it up in the "ugly" position every time I drove. It reminds me of this: http://www.break.com/index/digital_license_plate.html which is a much better execution of this idea, IMO. __________________ | | | 01-07-2009, 08:18 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Stamford, CT <-> Boston, MA Posts: 1,393 | Quote: Originally Posted by DaedHead8 | hah I remember watching that demo before. Next time I see my moms car I'm gonna check. __________________ | | | 01-07-2009, 09:12 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Stamford, CT <-> Boston, MA Posts: 1,393 | Quote: Originally Posted by DaedHead8 That would be unfortunate but I think it's just a bumper molding piece, similar to the way the license plate brackets work on e36s. Out here in cali I only placed it for about a week and I used 3M tape to hold it on Front plate laws are crap IMO, makes your vehicles look like crap and there is no real USE for them... | | | 01-07-2009, 10:51 PM | #9 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | The use is so the Police have a nice, reflective target to fire laser speed check guns at. Since new cars have no chrome to reflect, and very step windshields, this was brought back into law. In CT it was two, then one, then back to two. I went years with only one, but then I got pinched for it and had to add the uglifier to the front... | | | 01-07-2009, 10:54 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Stamford, CT <-> Boston, MA Posts: 1,393 | Quote: Originally Posted by J!m In CT it was two, then one, then back to two. He's gotten a ticket for no plate once.. at a seatbelt checkpoint. That was like, 3 years ago, he hasn't gotten one since. I leave my front plate on, I'll take it off and put a delete strip if I'm taking pictures or going to a show, otherwise what do I care, saves me $60 later on. __________________ BMWCCA #403399 2012 Mini Cooper S Clubman, 6-Speed Loaded 2001 325xi, Winter Package, 5-Speed Traded 1998 318ti, Active, Automatic, TOTAL LOSS R.I.P. 10/20/08 Bilstein Sport Shocks/Struts . He's got a euro plate on the back. He said he flips up the US plate whenever he drives around though. __________________ BMWCCA #403399 2012 Mini Cooper S Clubman, 6-Speed Loaded 2001 325xi, Winter Package, 5-Speed Traded 1998 318ti, Active, Automatic, TOTAL LOSS R.I.P. 10/20/08 Bilstein Sport Shocks/Struts . I t-boned an 85' honda civic (their fault) and couldnt get my front license out of their car, i guess thats my version of a front license plate hider. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
