I googled Bosch alternator metal on metal noise and this turn up. it looks like the floating stator has moved out of center. I will send it back to the rebuilder and see what he finds out. "These units have a "floating stator", meaning that when the unit is assembled the rotor is not pressed into the alternator castings like a conventional alternator, but is placed/centered in the housing and held in place by the pressure of the through bolts holding the entire assembly together. If these units are dropped, or are subject to pressure during installation, the stator can actually shift slightly which will cause noises that range from a magnetic type 'hum' to a metal-on-metal noise.;" __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 |
