Default low oil pressure

M52 +255,000 miles

On fast left handers on track my oil light flickers.
I overfill slightly. That didn't cure it.

Thought it might be a cracked oil suction tube.
Replaced that.
Still flickers on left handers.
Next I'm going with a baffle in the oil pan.

But today at a light my oil light started to flicker at idle

Rev it up, light off.
Checked oil level, it's fine.

So 2 things left.
Oil pump or oil sender unit.

Sender will be next.
Any other suggestions?

Whats way more likely than the oil pump, is that at 255K miles your main and rod bearings have worn and dropped your base oil pressure, time to think rebuild....

We all get old,, growing up is optional...

More like 265K miles.
The conversion was done at 10K and the odo went back to zero.

Rebuild or replace?
I'd rather drop a S52 in there.

But first I'm going to swap out the oil pressure sensor.
Also picking up a blank for the radio and may install a oil pressure gauge.

I've dropped a pan and just replaced the mains and rods in the car.. Used to call it a 50 dollar rebuild. (Of course Chevy V8 bearings are cheap) ,,, and the pan is easier to get off the engine in the car. But it will pick the oil pressure up.. Never tried it on a Bimmer..

Cheers
Dave
