It took me less than 20 minutes to perform the swap.......if/when you have all the tools/parts needed. good luck. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 11-02-2006, 07:23 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Tacompton, WA Posts: 309 | thanks! someone told me that it is illegal to switch out a steering wheel if it had airbags before....not that i really care that much but i was kind of surprised when i heard that....anyone have any input on that? thanks __________________ 95 318ti Alpine white, E46 m3 front bumper, Clear Corners, Cosmo CAI, k&n filter, Flowmaster catback, front strut bars, sony 12" sub Kenwood 800watt amp & Aiwa Deck, stickers Future: Angel Eyes, Drop, Rims, and rear bumper 318ti.org sticker (added 100HP) | | | 11-02-2006, 08:21 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | You would be removing standard, federally required safety equipment, so that makes sense. Basically the same as removing the seatbelts. __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 11-02-2006, 08:40 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Tacompton, WA Posts: 309 | Quote: Originally Posted by campaiar You would be removing standard, federally required safety equipment, so that makes sense. Here's another example: Would it be legal or illegal to remove your factory installed, federally regulated catalytic converter? __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 11-02-2006, 09:04 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | I think the federal requirement is that the manufacturers have to provide them with the car.. To get a ticket for it there would have to be a local state/county/city law against it. Local cops can't enforce federal laws, and I've never seen a federal highway patrol before.. hehehe I guess if you live somewhere where you get inspections every year you would have to be concerned, but otherwise, go for it if you don't want the airbag. | | | 11-02-2006, 09:32 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Tacompton, WA Posts: 309 | thanks for all the help!
