How hard and what would it take to put in an aftermarket steering wheel? TIA

Default NOT HARD

Check the threads, there is a step by step instruction on how to remove the/disconnect the slip ring and possibly installing a new horn connector.
It took me less than 20 minutes to perform the swap.......if/when you have all the tools/parts needed.
good luck.

You would be removing standard, federally required safety equipment, so that makes sense.

Basically the same as removing the seatbelts.

If it was federally regulated standard equipment when that car was originally sold, its probably illegal to remove such items.

Here's another example:
Would it be legal or illegal to remove your factory installed, federally regulated catalytic converter?

I think the federal requirement is that the manufacturers have to provide them with the car.. To get a ticket for it there would have to be a local state/county/city law against it.

Local cops can't enforce federal laws, and I've never seen a federal highway patrol before.. hehehe I guess if you live somewhere where you get inspections every year you would have to be concerned, but otherwise, go for it if you don't want the airbag.

nope.

had the DMV inspected my 97 Ti for Florida Registration with a Mtech II non-SRS, only thing was I had to rig the horns to work on a seperate switch, but it really depends on your state's anal factor.
