Default LWT wheels.....good or bad?

hey guys, i gotta question for ya......

with lightweight wheels (about 16lbs) is this true
" By reducing the weight of your wheels (rotational mass), you'll improve your car's acceleration, handling, braking and fuel economy, plus you'll reduce wear-and-tear on suspension components."

like really, whats the good n bad about having LWT wheels?

thankz for the imput.

That's true regardless of the actual weight of the wheels/tires.

Where did you get that quote? It seems really familiar. LOL

They are slightly more fragile than standard wheels, but nothing that you should notice on the street.

I would have them dye checked if the history is unknown, Track use can wear them out if you run it enough...

Tire Rack sells Kosei wheels that weigh 16.8 and come in silver.
They look a heck of a lot like the turners...

I know a lot of guys racing on them with very good luck.

I see you are in Baltimore, having driven through the city on my stock 15s many times and thinking "omg this is ridiculous" I don't know if LTW 17's would be the best choice.

I don't know how easily bent LTW5s are but most lightweight track wheels are cheap(er) because they might get messed up on the track and need to be replaced.

What is your purpose for the wheels? Looks? Tracking the car? Daily driver? Just some stuff to think about before committing to a certain set of wheels.

well my main reason would be looks and if there is any truth to that quote.

def not for track. more for a summer set.

also i put on some oem contours non-staggard and even though my handling improved, the bumps are bone jarring.......i thought the bumps felt bad on the stock sport rims but this is crazy.

so i guess another reason would be a softer more pleasant ride. i luv how it hugs the road but i swear its like if i hit any bump of any size i am gonna feel it and i think any sec something is gonna fall off.

Tire selection and profile are bigger than the rim weight for that.

Low profile tires ride harder, steel belts ride harder than synthetic, tires that need higher air pressure ride harder etc..

In my experience cheap tires have a harsh ride because they use stiffer cheaper belts.

Best riding tires I've used are Toyo and Goodyear. YMMV

if the roads are that bad you will bend lightweight rims, when they make them lighter they also sacrifice some of the strength, it's not a problem on a nice smooth track but on crappy roads you'll need the strength of regular rims
