Curious what you guys think of the buzzing sound from my idle control valve. I know the buzzing is what it's supposed to do, just want to know if yours sound like this (especially guys with newer ICVs). I held the camera up close to get better sound, so it's a bit louder than it is in real life. Sounds a bit "rattly" to me. I'm thinking it was a smoother, more consitent buzz years ago. If that's an original part, with that kind of mileage, it could be on its way out... I picked a replacement Bosch unit up a few months ago from Auto Parts Warehouse- with coupon, I only paid about $165 shipped for it (cheapest one I found on the interwebs). | | | 07-01-2012, 04:20 AM | #5 | Member Join Date: Oct 2009 Location: Louisiana Posts: 56 | +1, pretty much what mine has sounded like for 135K miles. It will bounce between about 500 - 1,000 RPM for a few seconds then settle down and idle normally. About three times now spread out over the entire summer the car has actually died as soon as I came to a stop because the idle dropped so low. It takes a little cranking to get it going again, then all is normal again for weeks-on-end. Since this is a random occurance I'm doubtful it's a vacuum leak, plus all my vacuum lines/intake gaskets are newer. I've been suspicious of the idle control valve for a while so I just decided to bite-the-bullet and buy a new Bosch unit. Here's some back-to-back videos of the old vs. the new. You can hear that the old one is louder, inconsistent and rattly. The new one is smooth and quiet. I'll report back if this fixed my issue. I'm compelled to inspect mine when I get a chance. __________________ | | | 09-14-2012, 10:17 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | I've got a bounce idle at times and it is the CCV valve that is blown due to boost. I'm going to solve this with some high end one-way valves so it can CCV the crank case and pop open to purge ring blow by under high boost. My ICV is all tied together and JB welded since the boost blows the valve apart. If I plug the CCV I get a perfect idle but then get oil leaks since the vacuum caused by the CCV valve stops oil from getting by seals and helps to control oil leaks. | | | 09-15-2012, 07:10 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | Quote: Originally Posted by Mr.Squeelerz Fixed. Will update later. | | | 09-23-2012, 01:33 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Great to hear and thanks for posting back your results.
