Just out of curiosity has anyone supercharged the 1.6 engine because all I hear is that this is common on the 1.8/1.9 engine is this because the 1.6 engine can’t cope with this type of application? Also when adding a supercharger what did you have to change to your car/engine Thanks | | | 04-12-2007, 07:36 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Greece Athens Posts: 302 | The 1.6 M43 can handle enough boost on stock internals, here in Greece there is a very reputable BMW tuner, which offers a turbo kit for the E36 M43, running 0.6 bar boost and taking the M43 to 165 hp. It is super reliable, equal or better than the DASC, intercooled using the stock 325tds intercooler, the car feels like it is factory turbocharged. It is using the stock airbox with K&N filter, Garret T25 supercharger, stock DME reprogramed, and the only thing changed in the engine is the head gasket to lower the compression. But the big downside is the price, 4500 eu, because there are many m42/m44/m50/m52 sitting around in very good prices! __________________ Alpina front lip spoiler,ACS roof spoiler,OEM clear rear-side lights,In-Pro blackchrome front indicators,Lummar tinted glasses,318ti.org decalls,Eibach Sportline 45mm/30mm springs,Bilstein Sprint shocks,16mm rear sway bar, front eccentric wishbone bushes,E46 conv. He is offering the turbo kit for years, and noone had even a small complaint. He is offering turbo kit for the ti/iS as well, but don't know details about that __________________ Alpina front lip spoiler,ACS roof spoiler,OEM clear rear-side lights,In-Pro blackchrome front indicators,Lummar tinted glasses,318ti.org decalls,Eibach Sportline 45mm/30mm springs,Bilstein Sprint shocks,16mm rear sway bar, front eccentric wishbone bushes,E46 conv. Boost pressure is developed from 700 rpm up, giving instant response and considerably more torque. We limit the maximum pressure to 0.4 bar and this results in enormously improved acceleration between 1500 and 5000 rpm. Fuel economy is often better than standard, due to the operation at lower engine rpm. We use only well-known and proven superchargers. Intercoolers are hand built and heliarc welded for maximum strength. The supercharger mountings are designed to outlast the vehicle and if required the kit can be removed in a day to return the vehicle to standard. Furthermore we fit Aeroquip stainless steel oil lines and silicone high-pressure hoses for the air tube connections. All airtubes are powder coated in black metallic paint for a professional appearance. An important feature of our systems is that the engine is not modified in any way and can be converted back to standard in one day.
