I was looking behind my glove compartment today to see if I have an alarm module in there that isn't hooked up... I have heard that it is long and flat and has a green connector. I saw nothing long and flat, but I did see a green connector, plugged into somthing or other..? There was also an empty bay at the top of the area at which I was looking. I assume that this would be where the alarm module goes. What I did not see was a connector just hanging loose, I thought I would if there was no alarm installed. Are all 318tis pre-wired for alarms? __________________ Silver 98 318ti Standard trans, Sport Package: 16" Stock Wheels, Foglamps, Sunroof, Heated Leather Seats, Bilstein performance shocks, OEM Sach's clutch kit, Dunlop SP Sport A2 225/50/16 tires, Alpine CDA 7894, Dual Rockford Fosgate 12" subs, Rockford Fosgate Amp, Leather Armrest, Replaced M44 engine with only 40k on it! http://www.geocities.com/evalha/bmwsmaller.JPG | | | 02-27-2006, 02:39 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by evalha007 What I did not see was a connector just hanging loose, I thought I would if there was no alarm installed. Only the CD changer is prewired. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 02-27-2006, 03:54 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Lynchburg, VA Posts: 200 | Doesn't it say prewired for BMW Factory Alarm somewhere in the trunk if it is? | | | 02-27-2006, 04:07 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by sparkchaser Doesn't it say prewired for BMW Factory Alarm somewhere in the trunk if it is? | I'm to tired to check. I thought it said CD and phone. But if it does say alarm then I'm wrong. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 03-03-2006, 07:06 PM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: wisconsin Posts: 27 | I had the same problem when installing my keyless entry kit. After searching for a long time and pulling my trunk apart at the suggestion of the manufacturer I finally found it. I was looking exactly for what you were looking for. A harness with a plug hanging out of it but it is not a harness at all. Take the bottom panel off, passenger side footwell, dirtectly above your feet. Located above the heating ducts all the way on the firewall Is the mysterious 12 pin connecter, no wire loom hanging just a solid connecter port. Hope this helps | | | 03-03-2006, 08:21 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Phoenix Posts: 41 | Just went through this. I installed an aftermarket alarm system utilizing the factory harness that is behind the glove box. Indeed it is there and prewired. The 12 pin connector is a little tough to see, but visible. The only problem I had was that Pin #1 of the 12 pin is supposed to be 12v+. There was no power on mine. In the fuse box it says to look for fuse # 37 or 47???. Says it is supposed to be behind the glove box also. 8 hours later I found it on the driver side behind the IP up against the fire wall. No fuse in it. Given the proper kit, and this knowledge about the location of the mysterious fuse, it is quite easy to install. I use a system I bought off ebay. I think the company is BMWalarmsystems.com. | | | 06-10-2006, 04:01 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: TX Posts: 140 | Fuse 47 hidden to prevent thieves from disabling alarm? I'm guessing this is why the factory alarm in my 96 ti is not working. I know an alarm system is installed having dismantled the passenger's side kickpanel and discovered it, but my fuse box cover doesn't say anything about alarm fuses. What amperage fuse did you throw in there? | | | 06-11-2006, 01:06 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | My '98 was prewired. The module does go in that spot under/behind the glovebox. The harness for the alarm horn is also already in place in the passenger side front corner of the engine bay. I bought mine from Bavarian Autosport and it came with very clear instructions. They only thing you have to mod/fabricate is a hole near the ashtray for the little red blinking light. Their instructions came with a template for the hole. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
