When BMW started the Z1 in 87, it was just an experiment. then it became a production car. then the z3 and now the z4 but for 2010 bmw will come out w/ a inline four Z2. it'll be shorter then the Z4 by 4.1 inches. the engine will be a 2.0L 4-cylinderfor the base, offering state-of-the-art electronics and variable valve tech. for increased power and reduced fuel consumption. the normally aspirated engine should put out 140bhp while the turbocharged M will make about 270! the roadster will replace the Z4. BMW says "the roadster segment is too limited to offer two cars at such similar market levels!! most likely the Z2 will built in the U.S. BMW's new CEO Norbert Reithofer stated that the Spartanburg plant will be enlarged to produce 200k vehicles/year(an increase of 60k) besides the Z2 and X5, the X3 and a cross over model called the X coupe could see S.Caroline manufacturing. the car will be sold in late 2010 it has to be lighter and cheaper then the MX-5 and S2K!! (can't wait till it comes out waiting till the 2010 car show!!) __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 09-29-2006, 12:12 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | AWESOME!!! I seriously can't wait. The 270 hp rating is incredible. I guess it'll be using the N44 motor from the Euro 1 series, 1.9L? I have to say though, Vanos 2 is incredible. | | | 09-29-2006, 06:27 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | yea it is quiet cool no i think it'll be a 2.0L __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 09-29-2006, 07:05 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | 140bhp? Can't BMW get away from the Sub-150hp 4 cyls(Not counting the econ models ie 316 etc) Least go the Mini route and S/C one for 170-190hp and then the M for 270...a 100hp diff will still get people to buy the M, not to meantion the M goodies. | | | 10-07-2006, 01:56 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | that is very true panzer!! i hope they do!! would definetly buy it!! hope its under 30k maybe 25k __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 10-11-2006, 10:39 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: SOUTH Jersey Posts: 1,085 | now I read somewhere that the replacement for the Z4 will be a larger and more expensive car.. with the Z2 slotting in slightly below where the Z4 currently sits.. | | | 10-11-2006, 10:54 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | I seem to remember hearing on Top Gear about a 300hp 2.0L turbocharged motor. Apparently it's the N46 with double vanos with a nice variable geometry turbo on it. | | | 10-12-2006, 10:33 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | Quote: Originally Posted by Mad-Machine now I read somewhere that the replacement for the Z4 will be a larger and more expensive car.. with the Z2 slotting in slightly below where the Z4 currently sits.. | well we'll just have to wait and see what bmw does __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 10-12-2006, 11:15 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Hawaii Posts: 124 | The Z2 is taking the Z4's current spot, they are trying to get back to the Z3 craze they had in the 90's. The 4 cylinder will only be available in Europe according to roundel. The us models will be two i6 engines. One of them will be the twin turbo engine from the new 335. It doesnt say if that car will have an M badge on it or not. | | | 10-13-2006, 10:57 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | in r&d they said that it'll possibly come with the i4 for the us __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 10-16-2006, 09:03 PM | #13 | Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Bristol UK Posts: 91 | saw that in a mag in the dentist waiting room..
