I have a 2000 (W) 318Ti and some louts have ripped of my passenger side wing mirror. Been to a couple of scrap yards and though the mirrors look identical the connection to the door seems diiferent, mine has 3 bolts holding it, the others seem to have 1. Any ideas on where to get a replacement without paying the £145 my local dealer wants? | | | 02-05-2007, 03:29 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: ipswich Posts: 656 | what one do u have normal or m3 style __________________ 318TI FOR SALE MESSAGE ME FOR MORE INFORMATION | | | 02-05-2007, 05:58 PM | #3 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | The e36 compact shares mirrors with the sedan/saloon, is it possible that the mirrors you've seen in the scrap yards were from coupes? | | | 02-06-2007, 07:38 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Grimsby UK Posts: 4 | Just the bog standard ones. | | | 02-06-2007, 08:15 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: ipswich Posts: 656 | what colour is urs mate and ill keep an eye out for u there are usually loads on ebay __________________ 318TI FOR SALE MESSAGE ME FOR MORE INFORMATION | | | 02-06-2007, 09:17 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Bristol UK Posts: 91 | Ebay is the best place - I sold one about £15 otherwise try GSF if you need one quick - you'll probably have to colour match/spray the back cover - unless your ripped off one is recoverable. __________________ 1997 Moreagrun | | | 02-07-2007, 07:03 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Grimsby UK Posts: 4 | the mirror itself is ok, its just where it connects onto the bracket that snapped. I should be able to remove my old backing and replace it, however for reference, its silver. | | | 02-10-2007, 07:37 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Bristol UK Posts: 91 | The coloured bit pulls off (with a bit of prying) - so i'ts probably better to use that on the replacement mirror that try & spray the new one - also worth keeping the glass too. BTW when you buy a new mirror - go for post '97 one - pre '97 were 1 piece and all black, easy to recognise the post '97 as they have little black bumps and the detachable colour coded back & are a bit more rounded __________________ 1997 Moreagrun | | | 02-10-2007, 10:51 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 The e36 compact shares mirrors with the sedan/saloon, is it possible that the mirrors you've seen in the scrap yards were from coupes? | He said 2000 .. therefore its an E46 just thought id point that out for the guys tryin to help. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 02-10-2007, 11:24 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | Nope... 2001 is when the Compacts went to the E36 body style. | | | 02-10-2007, 11:59 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | Quote: Originally Posted by pnosker Nope... 2001 is when the Compacts went to the E36 body style. | Im assuming your mean E46.. so what your saying is they made an E36(92-99) in the year 2000? Members "gambit" "e36 323ti" "Webjeano" and "oakley" all have 2000 e36 compacts. Oakley's Dakar 318ti is the newest being made in late 2000. | | | 02-20-2007, 02:11 PM | #14 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Grimsby UK Posts: 4 | Soooooo, is it an E36 or E46? cause most of the things I look at say E36 ->98 and E46 01->. This does leave a big gap between 98-01 | | | 02-20-2007, 02:31 PM | #15 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | It's your car, you should know. Besides, without pictures it's no wonder that everyone's confused. That's probably why you can't find a mirror for your car. Knowing what body style you have is rather important when looking for parts at the wrecking yard. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
