Default Need some help with a stereo problem

So the previous owner of the car had an aftermarket Sony stereo installed. And it's not too bad, I enjoyed it. The problem now is that, there seems to be this 50/50 chance that the stereo will actually turn on when the car is started, and if it doesn't turn on, then it'll somehow turn on maybe 20-30 minutes later. Then it got to a point in which the radio didn't EVEN turn on for a month or so. And all of a sudden, it starts working again. Was pretty happy until a few days ago, while driving around and listening to the stereo, all the sound just gets completely cut off. No clue as to how that happened. Sound might turn back on again later on if I'm lucky, or it just stays off. So now the sound is literally on and off and I can't figure out what the problem is.

I'm quite a novice at dealing with cars and stuff, I tried taking the radio/stereo out, but I couldn't seem to get it to come out. I TRIED taking out the central unit thing, but I could only seem to get the bottom tabs out. Not sure what I'm actually suppose to be doing here really...

Anyways, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Most have a clip on each side that have to be released. Just to be sure go to Sony's website and type in the model number and get the owners/install manual.

the HVAC panel is held on by the two lower tabs and two screws, the screws of course are behind the radio so you can't remove it without removing the radio first

The radio should come out using two special keys (one on each side). If you don't have them, any type of radio shop should have them and will probably take it out for you.

Sounds like you need a new radio.
