Default Looking at a 318ti tomorrow.

I am going to be checking out a black 1995 318ti tomorrow, local dealer, 124,000 miles. Asking 4,995. Never actually owned a bmw (yet) but the 318ti is by far my favorite. A little research taught me that there was a recall for the variable speed control (cruise and throttle problem). I was wondering if anyone had an opinion about the price; too high? I figure if it went in to get the problem fixed, this is not a bad deal. Any opinions?

Is it this one? If so looks pretty clean in the photos.

Craigslist ad

Dealer Ad

Prices vary across the country, but for a Dealer price of 5k, it is slightly on the upper end of the price scale IMO, but then again it is a dealer price.
For 5k I would expect really super clean condition and all the maintenance is up to date (especially cooling system). Condition is everything.

Slightly curious why only the right headlight assembly was replaced, Rock hit? Accident?

just one thing to remember... The magazine Bimmer pointed this out a couple of years ago.. out of all the E36s.. the 318ti is holding it's value more so than all the other varients.

Couldn't agree more. Also make sure all the maintenance is up to date.

I think your talking about a 4000 dollar car average, withthe leather in good shape I'd go in and offer 4200 or so, if its rust free , check all the wheel well lips, look for bubbles. (Assuming its in a salt road zone..?) Nice car, my 1995 in black has held up well, at 180K miles and no issues.

I think that $4,500 would would be, "well bought and well sold," especially if you can verify some cooling system maintainence, especially water pump, thermostat, radiator, coolant in good condition. Good luck!

Everytime I have an opportunity to check it out, a snow storm comes through. I live 80 miles south of where it is. Hopefully this wednesday I will be test driving it.

I was going to look at this 318ti also, instead I'll be flying to the Chicago area to look at two.
