Default Injector Question

So, I realize that the '95 M42 in the 318ti uses an injector with air injection... I was wondering if it's possible to retrofit these injectors with the non air injected one?

I couldn't find any information on doing a swap, or if air cooled ones are required.

The air injection isn't to cool them, it's to atomize the fuel as it enters the cylinder. You can replace them with one's that have no air injection as long as you remember to plug the vacuum line that feeds them or you'll create a leak. Although doing this will not properly atomize the fuel, therefore it'll burn less efficiently. Try searching on m42club.com for this topic someone may have found injectors that do atomize it properly. IIRC our stock injectors have a single hole pintle cap where as, aftermarket or other manufacturers( Such as ford) whose injectors are known to fit the m42, have 4 holes in the pintle cap and I think that helps with atomization. My best suggestion is to google it, or try asking on m42club, bimmerforums, etc.

Also someone please correct me if the info I gave was wrong as this was all from memory. There used to be a link in a different thread that perfectly explained what the air injection system does but it seems to be a dead link.

The air cools the injectors, as well as improving throttle response at low RPM.
Its also to help with Emissions at Idle.

A 4 hole injector will help, but the way they wrapped the intake around the fuel rail on the M42/44 I'd wonder,, will regular injectors overheat? Its not a high risk experiment...

The ti injectors are also shorter than "normal" injectors. Vac sells adapters so you can run other injectors.
