I just passed my White 1998 M-Sport auto to my teenaged daughter. The car is in remarkable original condition, many new parts, big front brakes, 17" Style 23 wheels, Bridgestone Potenzas, etc. - flawless in every respect with 31,800 miles. I was thinking maybe it makes sense to sell to an enthusiast but not sure it is worth enough to go through the exercise; I'd just have to replace it as she needs something to drive. Opinions? | | | 10-23-2009, 04:52 PM | #2 | That's not Millpoint Blue Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: BNA Posts: 3,161 | No offense meant towards your daughter, but definitely sell it to an enthusiast. That sounds like too nice a specimen (even with the auto trans.) for any teenager to "drive," i.e. "neglect and abuse." Unless of course, your daughter LOVES the car, appreciates the fact that it's still "young for its age" and is committed to keeping it in the current condition. __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! If she says Pontiac Sunfire, you're in luck! __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 10-24-2009, 04:54 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: San Jose,Ca Posts: 37 | As a teenage driver myself,i would ask her. | | | 10-25-2009, 05:40 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | IMO I would give her the choice of A: selling it and getting a replacement in worse shape or B: she keeps it, but the first sign of neglect it gets stolen and replaced. Sounds WAY too nice for most of the teenagers I know, myself included at the time __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. H&R race springs F+R. Opinions? | After totaling my ti in 2000 and coming out without a scratch, if you love your daughter, give it to her. Just make her do a few street survival programs regardless. http://www.streetsurvival.org Also make sure she knows if and when steam starts coming out from under the hood, pull over safely, turn the car off and call you. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-25-2009, 06:04 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: SW Michigan Posts: 90 | Quote: Originally Posted by budget76 IMO I would give her the choice of A: selling it and getting a replacement in worse shape or B: she keeps it, but the first sign of neglect it gets stolen and replaced. I am in the process of teaching her how to care for a car, a somewhat long term project. And yes, it is way too nice and probably should be owned/driven by someone who knows what they have. Well, I still own it but am not driving it any longer. Having babied and driven it for more than two years as my primary ride, I bought a 2005 330i 6MT ZHP in March. But, I still love the Tee, and believe me, it is in jaw-dropping condition. | | | 10-25-2009, 06:06 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: SW Michigan Posts: 90 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti After totaling my ti in 2000 and coming out without a scratch, if you love your daughter, give it to her. At least you can still drive it when you miss it. Let's see some pics of your 318ti.
