Default what size are allen head bolts for license plate

Allright guys, apparently i lost my wrench to get the allenhead bolts off the license plate. There the ones that have the "nipple" in the center of the top of the bolt. does anyone know what size they are, i need to go pickup a new one, thanks!!

I don't think there's one common size. Most people use their own bolts when fastening their license plates. As for the little "nipple" in the middle of the head, sounds like you're talking about a safety torx, not an allen head. Just go to any autoparts store, they'll know what you're talkin about and get you what you need.

find a smaller store that will be comfortable with you taking a couple wrench's to the parking lot to get just the one you need, or you might as well buy a whole set

If it's safety-allen or safety-torx, buy a set of the inserts (for power drills). It's going to be way cheaper.

I often just dremel out the center of the bolts though, but for a license plate it's probably not a good idea.

well fella's i went to the autostore. The had is not a torx, its a allen, so i ended up buying a "import license plate mounting kit" which had all new bolts, and more importantly the wrench i needed! thanks for the advice.
