So about two months ago i was driving, my gas gage randomly dropped and the light came on. so i stopped the car, turned it off and when i attempted to turn it back on it wouldnt. I was getting lights and everything. the shop eventually determined it was a blown fuse and i was back on the road. today the same thing happened. When i noticed it i was luckily near a shop here at school so i decided to drive to it( a mile away with gas light on below the line, and the temp gage was fluctuating.) got to the place, turned off, tried to turn it back on and the same thing that happened before. The shop was closed so i just left the key there and the note explaining the situation. Is it most likely the same fuse causeing the problem? I've read on here people have problems with blown fuses and just carry around a bunch with them. This car has been a huge dent in the pockets the last 6 months, and all i need it for is to get me across PA in time to catch a saturday night flight out of the country any help would be appreciated. | | | 11-20-2010, 05:42 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Wichita, KS Posts: 111 | Yes you can carry a handful of fuses, which could get you home or to your critical appointment. There should be one fuse of esch size in the underside of the fuse box cover. But when you have time, you can troubleshoot the problem circuit. Some overload is blowing the fuse, likely a wire rubbing on the body till it wears the insulation through. finding a short like that takes time, but it's not rocket science. | | | 11-20-2010, 11:04 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | What fuse number is blowing? | | | 11-20-2010, 05:16 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Oxford, Ohio Posts: 868 | Any car will be a huge dent in your pocket if you pay $85 to replace a fuse that costs 25 cents. I saw your post when you had this same problem back in September. Most likely it's fuse #46 My advice to you is to buy a pack of fuses from an auto parts store then replace the fuse yourself before your mechanic gets his hands on it. If it works you can pat yourself on the back for saving yourself some money and getting it done yourself. I think the most likely culprit for the blown fuse is a short. The wires behind the stereo are very tight and if you have an aftermarket unit, it may be even tighter causing the wires to rub on something metal under the dash. | | | 11-21-2010, 12:50 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | I forget which number fuse it is but it causes irratic cluster readings but I don't think it causes no start. If that's the case, use the rear wiper fuse. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | Similar Threads | Thread | Thread Starter | Forum | Replies | Last Post | Fuse Box | L84THSKY | Electrical | 11 | 11-06-2013 10:10 PM | Fuse #46 | weezer | Electrical | 6 | 09-26-2010 07:54 AM | Car wont start, Fuse Promblem? | enfermo | Maintenance | 7 | 05-25-2010 07:33 AM | fuse 46 | thesk8nmidget | Electrical | 10 | 02-12-2009 05:11 AM | fuse box?? | shabz | Electrical | 5 | 12-26-2007 10:55 PM | |
