Hi guys, I finally purchased my 1997 318ti automatic about 3 months ago after lurking these boards for the last few years. So, the car is great, does everything I want it to except these 2 major annoying problems. Problem #1 Intermittent (75% of the time) diesel like engine noise coupled with accelerator pedal vibration (these 2 things happen at the same time, when one is absent so is the other). I have changed oil to Mobil 1 15w50 within 2 weeks of buying the car hoping it would clear the noise but no such luck. Problem #2 Terrible chassis vibration when in idle which can be felt coming from underneath the floor board. I have replaced the engine mounts and that didnt solve anything except making me $200 poorer. Somebody help me diagnose these things, anyone ever heard or experience any of this? I'm not sure if they're the same as Manual tran. mts...but that's where I'd look next. __________________ '99 ti /Mtechnic, Schwartz II, Meyle Control Arms w/Full Metal Ball Joints, PowerFlex poly LCAB's, Pirelli P Zero/Nero 225/50/16, "the d-baffle"...... | | | 12-28-2005, 01:54 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Amboy, NJ Posts: 333 | Car has approx. 90k miles. The car runs just fine, no lag in performance or anything, just these very annoying intermittent noises/vibrations. | | | 03-12-2006, 06:49 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 160 | same problem here. I had the UUC Stage 2 clutch installed and the rear Knock Sensor was damaged and stopped working. The Error code came up. The engine runs as though it is missing with a strong vibration at idle and is most pronounced between 3k – 4k RPM. Here is what I replaced: Front & Rear Knock Sensor Starter (old) Intake manifold Gasket Fuel Injectors Fuel Injector Vacuum hose system Fuel Pressure regulator Spark Plugs Spark Plug Wires Coil (damaged threads and old) Water Pump & Pulley Thermostat Radiator Coolant Hoses (All) NO CHANGE!!! Problem still there and I'm getting sick of it, but Error code is gone. This is what I am looking at for this issue: -Improper balance on Flywheel and Clutch causing resonance vibration (bad Damper)??? -Check torque on Clutch bolts. -Clogged and or damaged CAT. -Damaged piston ring and or valve due to Detonation when Knock Sensors were bad (will Compression Test) but there is NO SMOKE FROM EXHAUST at any point. -Clogged Fuel Filter. -Bad Timing Chain and or Chain Tensioner. -Bad Throttle Position sensor. (Test) -Test Airflow Meter. (Test) -Front Pully Damper (Crank Pulley). I'll let you all know what happens cossieturbo | | | 03-13-2006, 02:11 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Amboy, NJ Posts: 333 | My problem turned out to be an exhaust leak at the manifold. Still does not feel quite right but were getting there. I'm trying to just ignore seeing as how we will be dropping in a 2.8 by the beginning of the summer. | | | 03-31-2008, 04:25 PM | #9 | Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: CHAMBLY (QC) Posts: 31 | igot the same problem i'll put a video with that noisy crappy diesel sound :P where can i put the video for y'all seeing it ? | | | 03-31-2008, 10:08 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | photobucket would work, I think youtube makes you wait until they approve it | | | 04-16-2008, 08:06 PM | #11 | Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: CHAMBLY (QC) Posts: 31 | | | | 04-17-2008, 03:13 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Amboy, NJ Posts: 333 | Timing chain tensioner. __________________ 1997 332ti: 18" Gold BBS LM Repro wheels, 245/35/18 tires, H&R Sport springs, Bilstein Sport shocks, 328 front calipers w/ Brembo vented rotors, Brembo rear drilled rotors, X-brace, M3 front bumper, M3 mirrors, Euro clears all around, 6k HID, Black kidney grills, French fogs, Full Magnaflow exhaust w/ High flow cat, Auto - manual swap, B&M short shifter, 3.23 LSD, URI crank pulley, 3.2 OBDII engine swap, Kirk 4 point roll bar, Dove vaders. | | | 04-17-2008, 03:26 PM | #13 | Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: CHAMBLY (QC) Posts: 31 | are u sure? i go to the bmw this morning to know what is my problem. I have to hand it to you, you really took the shotgun approach here, starting multiple new threads and jacking other people's threads to get a diagnosis on your problem. __________________ 1/1997 M44 ti M-Sport Schwartz II | | | 04-17-2008, 07:58 PM | #15 | Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: CHAMBLY (QC) Posts: 31 | sorry im new in this forum ... i'm learning how to post | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
