Yep, I got towed

Found a beautiful wide open parking spot when I arrived, and I decided to back in. I had no hope of seeing the handicap sign that was too high for my rear window. There wasn't anything painted on the asphalt itself, so I'm going to research if it was even a legal handicap spot. If I don't get anywhere with that, I'm happy to take responsibility and use it as a learning experience to look more carefully next time.

And thank you so much Rich for helping out, that was way beyond kind of you! I was blown away by your generosity. Since you like trading for automatic transmissions, you can have mine for free when I eventually swap for manual

If pictures are taken of the parking spot now in it's current state to have proof that would be good. Now since this was in the complex it's considered private property I'm guessing so would have to see what the complex rules are for parking.

Thanks for looking into it! I need to research more if it applies for private property as well. I don't think this went through the city, all I have is the towing invoice. No official ticket or anything so not sure how I can go about fighting it.

It's possible this might also be a bigger fight than it's worth being towed on private property. The complex owns operates and controls those "roadways" so the fight would be with them.

The bright side of all this is that you're car wasn't stolen! And you got it back within an hour or so.

I think if one of us flirted with Tits McGee more we could have gotten the fee reduced more. Haha

13.20.410 Handicapped-only parking on private property.
A. Any person in lawful possession of private property containing off-street parking facilities within the city desiring to reserve handicapped-only parking spaces in such parking facilities shall submit a parking plan for site plan review to the planning commission, pursuant to Part 105 of the Bell Gardens Zoning Code, which site plan shall designate the spaces proposed to be reserved for handicapped-only parking.

B. The planning commission or the city council, upon review pursuant to Part 103 of the Bell Gardens Zoning Code, after a public hearing in accordance with Section 21107.8(c) of the California Vehicle Code, shall approve or conditionally approve the establishment of the proposed handicapped-only parking spaces if it finds that their establishment will not jeopardize, adversely affect, endanger or otherwise constitute a menace to the public health, safety or general welfare, or be materially detrimental to the property of other persons located in the vicinity.

C. When signs have been posted in accordance with this section, and approval obtained pursuant to subsection (B) of this section, no owner of or operator of a motor vehicle shall stop, stand or park said vehicle in any such designated area, at any time, except a vehicle bearing a special license or displaying a placard issued under the provisions of Section 9105 or 22511.5 of the California Vehicle Code.

D. Handicapped-only parking spaces in privately owned parking facilities shall be designated by posting, immediately adjacent thereto and visible from the parking space so reserved, the International Symbol of Access, and a sign not less than 17 inches by 22 inches in size with lettering not less than one inch in height which clearly states:

Unauthorized vehicles not displaying distinguishing placards or license plates issued for physically handicapped persons are subject to citation, and will be towed away at owners’ expense. Towed vehicles may be reclaimed at ____________________________________ or by telephoning (telephone number of city police department).

Additionally, a sign not less than 17 inches by 22 inches in size must be posted at each entrance to the off-street parking facilities to the effect that the facility is subject to public traffic regulations and control. (Ord. 379 § 1, 1977).

Thanks for the good eats, the swift drives through all over the freaking place and the support you all gave Jamie as we searched for his car. It was a bit like a treasure hunt there for awhile.

Ya, I saw Jamie open his door to pay toll. Turns out his drivers window is broke. Easy enough fix.

Interesting, I just noticed this thread has 3,398 views. Wow! I would never have guessed that high. Maybe next time James will have to make more stuff if more of the viewers showed up. No matter how far, you all are welcome to join.

What was interesting as we were zipping around was how many folks took note of the trunkless cars zipping by together.

Window regulators, on both sides actually haha. Everything works technically, but they've been bent too many times so the medal has become weak and won't hold its shape, throwing the window off track. And please, you've already done enough for me!
