We have a de-icer called Mag-chloride that had etched itself into my wheels. While they still shined up nicely...there were stains from this stuff that could be seen up close. I took steel wool, 1500,2000,2500 & 3000 grit to the barrels in order to eliminate all signs of the staining. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 09-02-2013, 03:53 AM | #50 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | Since moving to Florida in July, Cindy Lou and I attend the Cars & Coffee meet in Naples each Sunday morning prior to heading to the beach. There is a photographer who comes every week and seems attracted to the big dollar vehicles. I respect that...image is everything in Naples, FL. Anyway, he finally snapped a pic of my beloved Zippy car today. So, here it is...not much has changed. Here is what it looks like at Lowdermilk beach in Naples...our favorite spot! And, I leave you with one of me fishin' on the same beach. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 09-02-2013, 03:41 PM | #51 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: South Central, MN Posts: 1,065 | The car looks great, Sean! I went on google earth and scouted out all of the ponds in a 10 mile radius of my house...there are a bunch! I hit one or two on a regular basis...try out new ponds a few nights each week. i am all set up for salt water fishing now too. The fish most anglers go for here is called a Snook. They get big and fight like nothing else. I can't wait to catch one. going out tonight actually. Right on my man...hope all is well. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 09-02-2013, 08:10 PM | #53 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: Germany Posts: 375 | ugh... As for the steel wool. If your wheels are polished above 2000 grit it should work fine. Take 0000 steel wool (the real fine stuff) and the aluminum polish of your choice and rub the wheel as if cleaning it. Once you have removed all of the stains you can proceed with the sand paper. DO NOT use steel wool unless you intend to sand your wheels afterwords. It will leave small scratches that will need to be eliminated. Good luck! And, thanks for the compliments and I-Rating. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 09-07-2013, 11:03 PM | #55 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 09-08-2013, 03:56 AM | #56 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: South Central, MN Posts: 1,065 | Coulda just pee'd on it All humor aside....looks good! It connects the subframe to the frame.
