Hey guys, Recently my M44 in my 97' Ti has been leaking oil quite a bit near the crank, so I've since taken it off the road. I have the opportunity to pick up an M44 out of a 97' Z3 with fairly low mileage, so I was just wondering if that would pose any problems. Thanks. __________________ 1997 332ti: 18" Gold BBS LM Repro wheels, 245/35/18 tires, H&R Sport springs, Bilstein Sport shocks, 328 front calipers w/ Brembo vented rotors, Brembo rear drilled rotors, X-brace, M3 front bumper, M3 mirrors, Euro clears all around, 6k HID, Black kidney grills, French fogs, Full Magnaflow exhaust w/ High flow cat, Auto - manual swap, B&M short shifter, 3.23 LSD, URI crank pulley, 3.2 OBDII engine swap, Kirk 4 point roll bar, Dove vaders. | | | 12-19-2007, 09:51 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | Shouldnt, same motor. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 12-19-2007, 10:17 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Amboy, NJ Posts: 333 | Yah, I know. My main question I guess is will my intake & exhaust manifold work fine with it. The donor motor does not come with any accessories. __________________ 1997 332ti: 18" Gold BBS LM Repro wheels, 245/35/18 tires, H&R Sport springs, Bilstein Sport shocks, 328 front calipers w/ Brembo vented rotors, Brembo rear drilled rotors, X-brace, M3 front bumper, M3 mirrors, Euro clears all around, 6k HID, Black kidney grills, French fogs, Full Magnaflow exhaust w/ High flow cat, Auto - manual swap, B&M short shifter, 3.23 LSD, URI crank pulley, 3.2 OBDII engine swap, Kirk 4 point roll bar, Dove vaders. | | | 12-19-2007, 10:36 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | I think they would, Im not 100% sure so Ill let someone else give a answer. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 12-19-2007, 11:42 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Amboy, NJ Posts: 333 | I wonder if it's an aluminum block like the 2.8 Z3. __________________ 1997 332ti: 18" Gold BBS LM Repro wheels, 245/35/18 tires, H&R Sport springs, Bilstein Sport shocks, 328 front calipers w/ Brembo vented rotors, Brembo rear drilled rotors, X-brace, M3 front bumper, M3 mirrors, Euro clears all around, 6k HID, Black kidney grills, French fogs, Full Magnaflow exhaust w/ High flow cat, Auto - manual swap, B&M short shifter, 3.23 LSD, URI crank pulley, 3.2 OBDII engine swap, Kirk 4 point roll bar, Dove vaders. | | | 12-20-2007, 12:14 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | All m44s are the same no matter what chassis they came in. You can reuse everything from your ti m44 on the z3 m44. I installed a 98 z3 m44/auto into my 97 ti m44/man. You wont have any problems. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 12-20-2007, 12:58 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Amboy, NJ Posts: 333 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bluebimma All m44s are the same no matter what chassis they came in. I know that some accessories are different between the M roadster and M3, so it may hold true for the regular Z3 as well... take the accessories and wring harness off of your engine, put it on the 'new' engine, and bolt it in. Plug in the connectors and drive away. | | | 12-20-2007, 10:12 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | J!ms alive! __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 12-20-2007, 10:30 PM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Golden CO Posts: 16 | M42/44 series and the M50/52/54 series of engines are aluminium block. The M10 and M20 are a light weight steel casting. Meaning that the intake manifolds may vary slightly from year to year. As long as production dates are close to the same (find out using the VIN) you should be okay. The other difference is that the Z3 has a motor-driven fan instead of electric. Shouldn't be a major issue to retrofit though. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 12-21-2007, 01:30 PM | #12 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | The pulley is threaded on the ti so you can use that engine in the Z3 with the engine driven fan. If a Z3 engine is used in a ti, the wiring for the fan will already be there in the ti for it. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
