Default No sunroof

It sure is hard finding a BMW 318 with no sunroof. If you got one hit me up. I don't get what the big deal is. If you want some fresh air roll down your window. Less weight, more headroom, better COG, less leak problems, etc.

And why do most ti owners try and sell the car for twice bluebook? A BMW badge isn't worth 5K over bluebook value. Especially when the car only blue books for 5k. I can't count how many ti's I've looked into and the owner won't sell the car for less than 10k and the thing is a 1995 with 100K miles on it, has had like 3 owners, an accident and the headliner is falling off.

But I have found two ti owners motivated to sell me their car at kbb but I've declined. I'm waiting for no sunroof.

Good luck on that one,i'd say most bmw's have sunroofs and most people want them in a car. I think there was a poll on sunroofs awhile back here..

http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthrea...light=sunroofs

I think most people without a sunroof live overseas but there are some members in the US that have no sunroof.

The reasons they can sell for such high prices -
1. local demand (general USA has higher demand recently for high gas mileage cars)
2. KBB is not realistic when valuing the 318ti
3. added upgrades (a lot on here sell for >8k because they have desirable parts such as M-tech panels/bumpers/etc., audio equipment, coilovers, etc.

The sunroof is almost negligible in weight added, perhaps a few leak, but I don't remember it being such a big problem with others, and I don't think headroom is compromised at all with it.

I paid $6,300 + taxes for my 1998 active, the dealer wanted $7,700 and if I couldn't haggle lower than that I still would have bought it. The 36-40 mpg is the deal maker.

The sunroof is pretty heavy. Have you taken out the whole cartridge before?

Why are you holding out for no sunroof? Plan on tracking? Get a carbon fiber filler panel.

I don't like sunroofs either, but I just keep it shut. As for cost, I paid $4600 for my '95. While reading your post, I couldn't figure out why you are looking for a ti at all.

well, I got my Ti for $4500.. and then have dropped over 2 grand in repairs to her.. and I still have a droopy headliner and a bent rear control arm. Not to mention a CEL from either a bad Cat or an o2 sensor..

I like sunroofs but if it was a moonroof i'd love it even more. But i've seen a few e36's with moonroofs and they look out of place.

being a roadster guy, I love the sunroof in my Ti.. unless it is raining (and even then, it has to be really raining) the sunroof is open. Really nice on a cool day, windows up, heat on, sunroof open, you still get that open air feeling but very little drafts.

Somebody should rip off TCKline's idea and do a Carbon Compact. Get the front fender panels in carbon, hood, side views, sunroof, doors... Would probably cost a few grand in just panels...

Are the sunroof panels the same on all e36's? Or do we have to use the sedan one like the other body panels?

Was the moonroof original equipment, or added on later? I know that you'd lose some headroom if a moonroof was swapped for the current sunroof, but that's not an issue for me.

One of the few things I like better about my old '89 Civic Si is that it had a moonroof rather than the sunroof.

i wish i had a sunroof! anyone tackle the idea of putting a roof in one that didn't come with it? would it be more trouble than whats its worth??

and i paid $9600 for my TI - it was up for $10,800 ... but then again, im in canada, so everything costs more - and ive only ever seen one other TI in person (it just so happens to be in my town >:\ ) soooo - CDN funds + >100k miles + rare + + mint + bmw = $$$$$$ and i can't complain, i think i got a good bargain.
