Default what a belter!

I took my commie to a bmw garage and asked how much it would be to get the cam belt changed. Ive know the guy i asked there for a while and told me "they dont need replacing on these things since theyre CHAINS! Is he blaggin cos i thought only m3s used these?

No cambelt, only chains for BMW's.
My old Alfa GTV used to eat Cambelts for breakfast at a cost of 600 quid every 36K miles - nice!

When is it recommended to change the timing chain? my car has 182000KM...

Acutally, the venerable M20 baby six had a timing belt, but you don't see those in e36s often.

u dont need to change, unless they break or timing of the chain is not right.

which happens very rarely so dont worry about it, as long as u change ur oil every 3k u should be good.
