The tires it has now slide out when its went, so I dunno how it will work in the snow. I also have a somewhat steep drive way I have to make up, and last year my brothers Front wheel drive Cavalier got stuck lots of time, and I had to pull him up the drive way with my 4x4. The 4x4 is going bye bye so I was wondering would it be a good investment to buy some cheap snow tires? | | | 09-28-2009, 02:27 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | don't cheap out on snow tires, rear wheel drives aren't the greatest in snow since there's not much weight on the drive wheels Nokian Hakkapeliittas, Cooper Weathermasters and Bridgestone Blizzaks are all good tires, since you have such a bad driveway you might as well spend the extra money to get them studded | | | 09-28-2009, 03:27 AM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: Dayton,Ohio Posts: 10 | With the studs can I drive on the Highway? I do live in town and I don't want to tear up the tires | | | 09-28-2009, 11:52 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Novi, MI Posts: 115 | It's legal in certain states. I'm not familiar with Ohio's laws on studded tires. I'm not convinced that you would need studded tires. Full tread snow tires will do wonders and studded tires are very noisy on the highway. Check out tirerack.com for reviews on snow tires. They have a good selection and lots of good info. | | | 09-28-2009, 01:19 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | If you want cheap, good winter tires get the General Altimax Arctic at TireRack. | | | 09-28-2009, 03:17 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | I have lived in Cleveland as well as Cincy with my Ti's and yes, you would be very wise to invest in snow tires. Look on ebay, CL and ohiobimmers for a set of 15" or 16" already mounted. If they don't turn up then go ahead and invest in a new set from TR mounted on steelies. I picked up a set of 16" contour reps with really good Dunlop snows for cheap last fall. Nobody bid, just keep checking around. A couple bags of cat litter in the back help too and if you get stuck (or have to take a dump on the side of the road) they come in handy for traction. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 09-28-2009, 03:31 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Ohio Posts: 58 | look at Craiglist for Cleveland or Columbus for bmw snow tires and rims.
